Upgrading Brio6 to Hyperion8 - WTF????

We have the issue where the newer IE security patches mean that the Brio plugins no longer download correctly.

Apart from that, we've been running with a Brio ODS for some time, with few problems.

In order to fix the issue with the Brio plugin, I was advised to upgrade Brio 6 to Hyperion 8. "Fine..." I thought, until I actually attempted this in preproduction.

I decided to install Hyperion 8 on the same machine, not uninstalling Brio - I didn't need to.

I basically followed the "Express" setup path, and was faced with an unbelievably complex installer - when compared to Brio 6.

As we run a standard MS IIS install with Brio 6, I wasn't expecting to have to setup any Java or Webserver components, or even reconfigure what we had. I was expecting (naiively) that Hyperion would install services loosely akin to those used in Brio. It doesn't appear to do so.

Given that ALL I want to do is solve the browser bug, do I need to install Hyperion 8 at all?

If I DO need to install it, which bits do I need?

Will I ever end up with something as slimline and manageable as the original Brio 6 installation?

We encountered the same problem in 6.2.3. I had to pick through the JavaScript that launches the setup client, but in the end, I found the setup program.

In short -
Find the setup program for Insight. Copy to a new directory. Launch the setup program from a command prompt. You'll still get it installed, but bypass the IE security.

Hi,

There is a workaround for the issue related to IE security patch. Check this link for more information - http://businessintelligence.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/brio-l/83x-plugin-problem-due-to-ms-patch-workaround-846797

Couldn't get to that Forum at work.  Copied to here whilst at home;

"Intelligence 6.x and Performance Suite 8.x BQY files no longer open from Web Client, and/or ZeroAdmin finishes installation immediately without installing Web Client

In reference to the recently released Microsoft Security Update Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-052: Cumulative update for IE (KB896688), http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms05-052.mspx, issues involving BQY files which will no longer open in the Web Client, and the web client installer Finishes but the web-client is not installed please see below?

The following is related to Insight, QuickView or Freeview web clients and for ease of description below we will assume Insight is used.

Symptoms: Red X in Internet Explorer
Note: A defect has been logged with our development team and is being researched currently

Prior to application of MS05-052 security update (KB896688), Insight was able to open BQY files. Since applying the update the following is seen after selecting a BQY from the Reports Catalog:
- blank browser showing ?Working??
- followed quickly by blank browser with a small black square containing a red ?X? in the top left corner of the browser

IE is blocking the web client activeX application from opening the BQY in the web client.

Workarounds for this have been identified:
1, Rollback the MS896688 Hotfix by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Towards the bottom the Windows Hotfixes are listed. Select the one which includes KB896688 and click Change/Remove button to uninstall.
Note: if this is not listed but known to be installed you can do the following:
- go to C:\Windows or C:\WINNT and look for $ntUninstallKB896688$ folder.
- No $ntUninstallKB... folders here
- make them appear. go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders"
- Go to the $ntUninstallKB896688$ folder
- spuninst folder
- run the spuninst.exe program to roll back the KB896688 Hotfix.

2, Register the OnDemand Server/Hyperion Performance Suite web site as a Trusted Site in IE as follows:
Enable anything from your web server site by naming it as a trusted site so that all communication with your web server is permitted as follows:

Change the browser security settings to register the base URL or your report suite as a trusted site:
- IE browser:  Tools>Internet Options>"Security" tab>Trusted Sites>Sites
- "Add this Web site to the zone". Enter the first part of the URL you see in the IE address line on the page that has the "New Logon" button, e.g. "https://<HyperionProductWebServer>.<DomainName>/? as a site.
- click OK, then OK, then try again.

Symptoms: ZeroAdmin immediately shows Finish dialog after clicking Begin button without installing Insight:

If the symptoms seen are as follows then see below: when ZeroAdmin prompts to download the web client, click "Begin", then immediately see the Finish dialog -- however the web client is not installed. Proceeding on to then view a BQY show either: "File Error", red "x" in the top-left of screen, blank screen with "Working...", or, the BQY opens but using the pre-existing version of the web-client.

NOTE: Your users having attempted to install Insight on their system may now have the cookie on their client indicating Insight is installed so they will no longer be prompted to install Insight.

This can be fixed for both versions 6.x and 8.x as follows:

To Fix for 8.x
-        Locate the file wizcab2.jsp under <servlet deployment>/jsp/dataaccess/zeroadmin directory
-        Modify the CLSID in this .jsp file from
8C28EFD7-767B-11D1-844B0060972DC2AC
to
8C28EFD7-767B-11D1-844B-0060972DC2AC (Note the extra ? after 844B)

To fix for 6.x
-        Locate the file wizcab2.*.html files (Insight/QuickView/FreeView) under <ODS Home>/Server/HTML folder (or if your ODS-CGI/ISAPI/NSAPI are installed elsewhere go to that location)
-        Modify the CLSID in each of these .html files from
8C28EFD7-767B-11D1-844B0060972DC2AC
to
8C28EFD7-767B-11D1-844B-0060972DC2AC (Note the extra ? after 844B)

All users should now be able to install insight correctly. Note you will first need to close your browsers, open a new browser, remove the cookies (IE>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Clear History), close the browser, open a new Internet Explorer and access a BQY file as usual, this time the web client install should take a longer time between the Begin dialog and Finished dialog of the install wizard.
