Upgrading a Genesys Application

Hello,

I know there will be a variety of ways to upgrade a Genesys application but wanted to make sure I am doing it the correct way.
For example we will be upgrading the stat server so am following this process:
1. Stop stat server application in CME or GA
2. Export config (*.cfg) file
3. Uninstall exisiting stat server
4. Install new stat server (choosing relevant application name when prompted)
5. Check stat server application options (import *cfg file from step 2 if needed)
6. Start Stat server and verify through logs.

Is this how it should be done?
I noticed a wizard and upgrade option on some applications (like SIP/SCS) but not on the statserver or others such as URS and OCS.

Also should I uninstall the existing stat server or just install a fresh one choosing the stat server application when prompted. Am assuming this might be easier for rollback purposes ?

In my experience, I have just used the existing stat server application object. If you create a new SS application object, then you have to add the corresponding connections for the new object to/from all the other existing objects. IMO, that's one additional step. Also, if something isn't working right, it's one other thing you have to troubleshoot - did you forget a connection?

I will make sure that I save the configuration into a backup .CFG file before I make any changes to the config for the new version, so I can re-import it if I have to rollback.

I personally just use the application install instead of trying to navigate the Wizards. We used the wizards on initial configuration, but I don't think I've used them since (except for Configuration Conversion wizards during upgrades of Config Server).

For rollback, I just do an uninstall and reinstall. It only takes about 5 minutes if you have all the resources lined up (installation packages and old config).

Note: We are Single Tenant, two sites, high availability.

I agree with Kevin, creating new Objects in CME is not upgrading, as you need to go through the connections and permissions.

I would install the new version of SS to a new directory, so as to leave the old version intact in case you need to roll back. Whilst this works on Unix I'm not sure it would on Windows as the registry will be updated when you install the new version.

Thanks, Steve, I should clarify.

I am operating in a Windows environment. I cannot comment on the process in a non-windows (unix-based) environment.

I haven't attempted to install into a new directory in a few years; early attempts (roughly 7.2 down to 6.5) to install a second instance would up leaving a lot of scraps in the registry, etc. that could not always be cleaned out by an uninstall after the second instance was installed. Hence my adopting the practice of uninstalling, then installing the new version.

Hi Wasim,

If you want to use the wizard to upgrade an application then you'll have to install it first from the cd, its usually the setup.exe in the main folder.

Always check the release notes to confirm that Genesys haven't added any new options that you need to change from their default values in your environment.
