Title: Call for opinions
Post by: Jeff on January 01, 1970, 12:00:00 AM
Hello, my name is Jeff, and I am a member of Online Developer Group for nonweb based applications.
We are currently considering what should be our first freeware/shareware product. We are thinking about doing a simple softphone application, which would be used as a standard for developing customized versions in a future.
Do you think this is a good product to start with?
What platforms should it support?
What other product should we consider developing?

Codemonster,
Jeff

You can acces CME via an ocx control that ships with CME. It's a little cludgey but it can be done. I can go back and figure it out again if there is a valid use for it. Genesys was looking into opening the Config Server API at one time don't know if they are still pursuing that.

Sorry if this post is redundant. How about a basic softphone application as your first product?

I would like to see a soft phone which allows you to log in using a place.

Do you mean using a place from CME?
What an interesting idea!
What would be the benefits of such a design?

Currently Isuite has a similiar function. You login to one place and all dn's appear including VOIP extensions. If using isuite then chat and email also work. I'm not suggesting that this version be that complex but being able to login to a place (CME) is the start.

I like the idea. But, I do not think anyone in our online developer group knows how to access and read CME database. Is there a library of some sort we can use?

Yes, is a good idea, do you think it is possible to add
an alarm (like a beep)on the pc of the agent when a call is in queue?
Also I'm interested to try it if it is possible!

Max

Why don't you consider building a good simulator based on Lucent G3 or Meridian Nortel Symposium. The ones out there from Genesys are not robust and outdated.

HI!
There isd a new simulator for Gensys V6.0 It does not have the legendary memory leak and will read all the config information from the resources section in your CME. This way you do not ahve to maintain a *.eqp file.

A suggestion for a softphone:
Create places in CME for each desktop/DN/ combination.
1.) Query the Agent desktop for hostname (avaiable through MFC for for Mircosoft desktops)
2.) Get the relevant DNs for voice chat email etc from config server
3.) Register and login each of the DNs.
This way an agent can just walk in and press login with their login ID. The softphone will know where they are and what DNs to log them in on.

There are also some cool thigs you can do with inet suite

Is this simulator from Genesys?
We are still using version 5 of the suite, so would this simulator work for us as well?

Thanks,
Vic
