Title: CCA load
Post by: Vic on January 01, 1970, 12:00:00 AM
Hi, all,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how to spread the load on the statserver caused by DataSourcer aggressively polling hundreds of thousands of stats every 15 minutes.

One of the ways of doing is to split statservers, where some reports come from StatServer A and others from StatServer B; however, I really think this is an overkill. After all, the problem is not the CONSTANT load on the statserver by the peak load every 15 minutes.

On average our CCA StatServer is running at 1% and it spikes to 80% or more every 15 minutes for a period of 10 to 40 seconds while DataSourcer gets its chunks. Isn't there a way to somehow spread the request over the 15 minuteperiod? I mean, with TimeProfile we can set to get stats between 16:0016:15 at 16:17, 16:18 or 16:24 so why RUSH and get all those stats AT ONCE???!!

Is there some option I do not know about that would tell DataSourcer: "hey buddy take a break, go the local Starbucks, sip some cocoa, and then come back!"

If not, I suggest we create one and let's call it: "coffee_break = true"

Any thoughts?

Hi Vic,

Try Time Profiles to split the timings into three parts... I think you should be able to set it up to run something like:

33% of Layouts to start at 00:00 and run every 15 minutes
33% of Layouts to start at 00:05 and run every 15 minutes
34% of Layouts to start at 00:10 and run every 15 minutes

...At least it's something like that difficult to look it up from home(!)

HTH?
