Title: Handset details what is ringing me ?
Post by: Sean H on January 01, 1970, 12:00:00 AM
Hi there,

we are receiving sporadic calls into my strategy from fax machines and i wondered if there is a utility or function that i can use in my strategy, to check what type of device is actually ringing.

Can anyone offer any ideas please ?

TIA
Sean

Sean,

if you have a FAX machine and voice come into the same DNIS, there is absolutely nothing you can do, except for maybe have a VRU which prompts users to press one if they are human, 2 if they are fax or 3 if they want to be placed on hold forever

Genesys cannot tell difference between voice and fax on its own.

There is a fundamental difference in the telephony interfacing equipment you may be using;

Dialogic ype cards for Outbound will not discern between called equipment types, as the protocols are based on analogue for both of the I/O lines. The do recognize DTMF and FAX tones, but beyond that there are no guarantees.

Digital boards have the capacity to determine equipment types via frequencies not available to analogue lines, if they are programmed to do so.

You will need to determine your line and card types before you can determine if you have the capability to determine distant end equipment types

HTH?
