Title: cfgserver_backup in warm stanby mode
Post by: Mike on May 31, 2007, 06:22:50 PM
Do I need a special license (like ha_redundancy) to run cfgserver_backup in warm stanby mode?

Well, the special license you are referring is not for cfg server.
For config server, and its proxies, u do need licenses for each proxy.

In a geographically distributed configuration environment, the master
Configuration Server is running at the site where the Configuration Database is
located while Configuration Servers at multiple remote sites are working in socalled
Proxy mode and are connecting to the master Configuration Server. To
use this configuration, you must have one license to enable all instances of
Configuration Server to operate in Proxy mode.

Regarding your special license 'ha_redundancy', its for the switchover functionality to be used by SCS

ha_redundancy, controls the Solution Control Server ability
to perform a switchover automatically within any redundant pair of servers
(a primary and a backup) running with either the warm standby or hot
standby redundancy type.

Hope this is clear

But if I have a configuration without proxies (all servers located at the same site), let say I have Box A with Config Server Primary and Box with Config Server Backup. I don't need a special license?

If my customer does not have 'ha_redundancy', can I still install and use i.e a statserver primary and backup?

Yes, for the redundant pair of primary and backup Configuration Servers, you do not need any special licenses.
For primary and backup statservers, you do not need separate licenses for sure.
As mentioned before, ha-redundancy is for SCS to perform the failovers gracefully, otherwise, you have to do it manually.

Without ha_redundancy, you can deploy backup cfgdbserver and configserver but the warm standby don't work.
Your backup solution will only work by restarting manually the backup componants
