Title: Genesys upgrade from 6.5 to 7.x
Post by: louisa on June 11, 2007, 11:22:12 AM
After some tips and advice from all you experienced upgraders! We are planning to upgrade from Genesys 6.5 to 7.x - I have a copy of the 860 migration guide but was after any gotcha's, tips or upgrade paths anyone can offer.

We have already upgraded to TServer 7.2 (due to Symposium upgrade) and therefore license manager. Our license file is currently a combination of the old and new files with lines #'ed out.

Bit of background on what we have:

Genesys Enterprise routing (6.5.x) and reporting (6.1.x) running on a Solaris 8 OS and Oracle 8.1.7. Seperate VTO Server running 6.5.000.06 running on Windows 2000

Any further info you need let me know. You input is appreciated.

Oh, boy, where do I start...

The bottom line - it is NOT hard and everything works, BUT:

1. be careful with URS strategies and make sure you backup ALL of your CME, because for some inane reason when you restart URS, it sometimes messes up and loads OLD strategy that you have long unloaded.
2. URS 7.2 is compatible with 6.5 and 7.x strategies but backup your strategies (you will be thankful that you did)
3. if you plan on continuing using 6.5 strategies, DO NOT recompile them in 7.2 - use 6.5 IRD to modify them. I strongly suggest re-designing them from scratch using IRD 7, since it has many features we did not know even existed in 6.5 and you need to take them into account.
4. Statserver 7.2 is really awesome compared to 6.5, BUT some of the stat definitions have changed so check twice the stat definitions in options.
5. URS targetting is different (at least when you use VAGs) and so be prepared for complaints from SVs that calls are not distributed in the same way as before.
6. DataSourcer 7.x disconnects from StatServer and does not notice it even when use addp, so be careful!

Altogether, I STRONGLY suggest the upgrade - there are tweaks and cheats here and there, but overall, you would notice a much lighter CPU load on StatServer plus much better URS performance.

And, yes, ghost-calls are a thing of a past!

I will write more a bit later!
Best regards,
Vic

damn right; and if you upgrade to 7.2 URS, use 7.2 IRD.

Louisa, if you check Datasourcer 7.x release notes, you will get scared of the number of bugs... a big feature Genesys failed to get it work was datasourcer HA for early 7.2 releases; I don't know about the latest minor releases and have no experience about 7.5, anyway watch out.

Watch out for 7.2 IRDs in starting minor versions, it freezes if the strategy has many business rules.
check out the 7.2.001.11 and above  versions to work smoothly. It sorts the rules, and also there is scrolling capability when trace monitoring the strategy ( much needed one!!)

CCpulse 7.2 is awesome. you can see the VQs listed under the VQ group (DN group).

CME 7.2 is great with new Find tool with drag and drop functionality.

Talking about licenses, URS now handles some licenses rather than TServer. You may want to check the licensing documentation for that.
