Hi Everyone,
Tony Tillyer's "Handbook" has now been retired, after almost 5 years in circulation... :(
But don't worry! The Big Book Series is here - written by Tony and myself - there are also "Bite Sized" versions available at Google, Amazon/Kindle, iBooks, kobo and nook - with more eReader outlets coming soon;
The Big Book Homepage
The Big Red Book Series are fully re-written and updated for Genesys Version 8.x and they are intended as general guides for Business, IT, System, Solution and Senior Managers (just like your boss - and that means no more having to explain everything from the ground up! ;D ).
In time, the "Big Book" Series will eventually include;
The Big Red Books - for General, System, Solution and Staff Managers
The Big White Books - for Administrators and Supervisors
The Big Blue Books - for Operations and Support
The Big Green Books - for Deployments and Testing
The Big Black Book - containing everything for everyone!
Enjoy! :)
-
Hi Tony,
these guides are exactly what I needed. Thank you very much! I think that those guides will be very usefull for all who starts with Genesys.

Hi Tony,
Great! work. Perfectly done. Do you happen to have one on GVP? Thanks.

-
Ahhh... now... GVP... Y'know, I totally "forgot" about that...! :)
I guess it would complete the set, wouldn't it?
I'll look into it...
Thanks for the reminder (I think!)

Hi All,
Added ICON/Infomart Rough Guide...
Firstly, these are my first attempts at producing semi-technical documents relating to Genesys Solutions, so don't expect too much. In my opinion, they should suit new users, designers, administrators, some business analysts and perhaps some developers. So, they will not answer all of your questions but they should make you get a warm glow when someone asks about "SDK" or "TLib" or "CCA"...
Anyway, please be aware that they are not official and are not be quoted as an authority nor redistributed. Please feel free to take your own copy and, if someone wants a copy, send them a link to this Topic... ;)
I'd appreciate feedback and suggestions - to my email address please, not in this thread!

That's great! Thanks, just a question. Do you have chat enabled in multimedia?
Thanks!
-
Not currently, no - if you have a question regarding MCR webchat, could you please put it in a new thread?
Thanks,
Tony
-
Thanks - did you mention you will get the GVP soon? :)))
We really can use it.

Hi Dawn,
I have been somewhat sidetracked from these documents, for a while. With the consolidation (if you can call it that) of Voice Genie and Genesys Voice Portal I'm actually not too certain how this hangs together, at the moment.
Basically, I am now waiting for the dust to settle around what is the expected deployment of a Voice Portal Solution, in order to be able to produce an up-to-date "Rough Guide..." for it.
I really wouldn't hold you breath for it, though...
Tony
-
Hi Tony
I wont to say you that you have a good post
Then i ask you for a manual of configuration manager
Thanks
Best Regardas
-
Mat,
Config Manager is an Application within the Configuration Layer. There are 2 documents I have produced which cover different aspects of this Layer;
<<removed>>
You should get a good feel for Config Manager if you review both documents. If you don't find what you are looking for, please post your questions in the Forum... :)

Hi Tony,
Some great basic guides there.
However, I'd like to point something out with your infomart guide that is worth mentioning, I think. You say that the recommendation is to extract data before reading it. If you extract data to a second source to read from you need to be extremely careful not to lock any tables in the process. If you are using Oracle as your DB then this shouldn't be a problem, however if like my company you are using MSSQL then locking tables is a real danger. Once you lock a table the GIM database job that is currently running will fail, meaning your ETL process is out of sync and will need to be manually recovered.
-
Thanks for the pointers;
I wrote the guide before the introduction of the actual Business Objects interface (and Informiam). My suggestions were based on the ways in which you could conceivably access extracted (ODS and Mart) data, by taking it off-line for use in "any" reporting interface. Obviously I'm not a DBA but a level of caution is required when/if doing so, to ensure that records/tables/schemas are not locked out from the main purpose of getting the data written into them(!)
- I'll look to updating the guide in the coming weeks and again; thanks for the valid points you've made.

Thanks again...

this is very nice
-
Mate
this is gold I just needed an overview and this is it, much appreciated
-
That's very good Tony.
Do you have something similar about GVP? ;D
-
Sorry, no I don't. My knoweldge of GVP (NE) as it was (7.2) is out of date and now that there are 2 "flavours" (Voice Genie and GVP) the subject is a little wider than a simple "Rough Guide...."
- Unless someone would like to share/create their own version of a Rough Guide for GVP...?
Tony
-
Very useful to dip into as a refresher, Thank you. Do you have an unoficial view of the roadmap to v8 etc?
-
My pleasure - are you sure you're not reading my emails? :) ...only today did I begin to think about v8.x, as an update to the Rough Guides... However, end of life for 7.x is a long way off (?) so I will be working through the Guides as and when Genesys begin to make eol statements...
Tony
-
Tony,
I would like to contribute in writing a rough guide for GVP. Please do let me know, if i need to follow any specific things...
Regards
Ash
-
Thank you Ash,
I have been approached twice in a week to write up a Rough Guide... to GVP - I am overawed!
Please take one of Rough Guides... as a reference for the orientation of the document - the Headings should give you a good idea of what needs to be included and complete the guide with a customized graphic to show a typical Architecture.
Above all, do not copy/paste any details from any official documentation!
Tony
-
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the guidelines. I shall be trying to put everything in a common mans terms. Please do advice about the Architecture Diagram. Do let me know if you use any specific template for the same.
I can create diagrams using Visio.
Regards
Ash
-
Thanks a lot Tony.
-
The "Standard Architecture" diagram in Multi-Channel routing does not reflect the connections between servers correctly. Where did you get it from ?
-
As I mentioned in my initial post, I created these documents from scratch. If you indicate where the error(s) lie and give a brief explanation of how it does not reflect the standard architecture, I will update the diagram.
PS: Your people skills could do with a little work, there Yevgeniy... :)
-
Hang on - I think I've got it, now...
I took an extract from a live MCR system and copied out the connections - this is what I ended up with...
Is this about right...? I still think my original version in the Rough Guide... looks prettier... :)
Tony
-
Wof, Tony I have compared Genesys standard diagram with your and I don't see where is the mistake. This last one is very complete but for a basic understanding and users may be a very ugly one to look and understand.
I'd like to know what does Mr. Yevgeniy will indicate is a correct diagram.
-
Looks like no connection between UCS and UCS DB Server, also between IXN DB server and Interaction Server.
May be what is that confuse Yevgeniy ?
-
Ok, a few things:
- there is no such thing as "UCS DB Server". UCS is java app. connected through JDBC. There is UCS DAP, but not DB Server;
- no connection exist between Classification server and Stat-server;
- no connection between IRD and UCS too;
- web forms (web email) coming to ESJ (MCR email server) through WebAPI "server" :);
- where is URS on this picture? Suppose to be connected to IxnServer and StatServer;
- there are some additional connections exists like the one from UCS to Stat-server.
-
Very good point!
I was wondering if you would mind helping Tony to modify it?
Best regards,
Vic
-
OK....
I've noted that our local deployment of MCR uses components to update config, etc., rather than being the basic build - which is what you are outlining here...
Also, some of the interconnects I have drawn may be misleading, because I am coupling "Connections" (from the Application Connections Tab) with interoperability...
Rather than redraw the whole thing from a live environment, I will go back to the drawing board with a vanilla load of MCR for email only....
In all, I'd give myself a C- for effort... :)
Thank you! :)

You are right - which letter of the alphabet would you like to assign? We only have 26 of them!

We have greek, arabian, russian alphabet also so don't worry ;D

u miss Chinese - how about 1000? 3000? 6000? charster =)))))
-
starting point #3, another file format failed :-(. Hope gif will work
-
<<<FOURTH update!>>>
Thanks Yevgeniy - A couple of questions/point:
IWD/IRD connects to UCS, by inference/operation - right...?
I've included CCA components, for completeness - I'm going to add them back in on a redraw of your diagram...
I can see GAD connected - is that the same for GSD?
Content Analyzer...????
Tony
-
So - a bit like this, then...?
-
hmm, what about chat server ? or no one using it ?
-
Isn't that another API..? - I could add it, but it amounts to the same sort of interface as the ("example") Web API... ???
-
oh, maybe i had mistake - but i think u mast change sign on Fig. and sign on Fig 2. i mean Fig.1 it a "MCR Agent Application Overview" and Fig.2 it's a Admin view
and for connection diagram - u miss chat server. it's have connection not equal to Web API. It's also mast be connect to Interaction server.
-
OK - I will include it... Thanks!

Hi Tony Great Work,
Thanks for the docs provide by you very useful to all members.......... :)

Hi Tony,
for some reason latest link "009 - ROUGH GUIDE TO MULTI-CHANNEL ROUTING v7.x - v2.0.pdf"
does not work for me. Few comments to the picture from March 04, 2009, 06:48:20 PM post.
To remove:
- there is no direct connection between IWD/IRD and UCS;
- UCS DBServer between UCS and UCS Database is confusing, the only thing really exist is UCS DAP.
- no ContentManager in 7.x, just Knowledge Manager
To add:
- connection between Routing Stat-server and Interaction Server;
- optional connection between Stat-server and both types of Desktop
- optional connection from InteractionServer to CCP Stat-server;
- connection from WebAPIServer to EmailServerJava for web form emails support
If you want to add Chat to this picture you can put it in parallel with Email Server and WebAPI server and connect to:
- WebAPI Server
- UCS
- Interaction Server
Yevgeniy
-
This one works fine. Thank you. All my previos comments are still applicable.
Yevgeniy
-
Thanks - I will take a good look, tomorrow...
Tony
-
I don't want to overcomplicate this graphic, so these are my responses;
To remove:
- there is no direct connection between IWD/IRD and UCS; Correct - but IRD affects UCS, as it does URS - I have updated the link line as blue, rather than black to show this distinction.
- UCS DBServer between UCS and UCS Database is confusing, the only thing really exist is UCS DAP. It actually states "UCS DBServer (Java)" on the graphic - the (Java) is for clarity. I'm leaving this in, as it does actually exists
- no ContentManager in 7.x, just Knowledge Manager - OK (removed)
To add:
- connection between Routing Stat-server and Interaction Server; OK - done
- optional connection between Stat-server and both types of Desktop - optional - not standard - not done
- optional connection from InteractionServer to CCP Stat-server - optional - not standard - not done
- connection from WebAPIServer to EmailServerJava for web form emails support - OK - done
If you want to add Chat to this picture you can put it in parallel with Email Server and WebAPI server and connect to:
- WebAPI Server - done
- UCS - done
- Interaction Server - done
Thanks for the inputs - before I embed it in the document again, could you please take a look at the attached?
Tony
-
Hi Tony,
few more comments:
- IRD & UCS. IRD does NOT affects UCS. IRD works with CFG only to access names of UCS objects replicated into CFG by UCS.
- what is it "UCS DBServer (Java)"? There is no such component. UCS works with DB using direct JDBC connection. Parameters of this connection described in UCS DAP.
- optional connection from InteractionServer to CCP Stat-server. There are two such optional connections in the system: Interaction Server - Stat-server, and UCS-Stat-server. You have one, and do not have another.
- what I do not remember is a connection from UCS manager. Is it to UCS or directly to UCS DB?
The next step is to simplify...
Yevgeniy
-
Yevgeniy,
Try this.... :)
Tony
-
almost finished...
To remove:
- dotted line from CCpulse to IxnServer;
- Routing Stat-server to UCS (enough to have from CCP Stat-server)
To add
- Interaction Server to Classification Server
- Email Server Java to Interaction Server (really two connections, both ways)
- WebAPIServer to Interaction Server
Not sure about:
- IRD to Routing Stat-server. What is it for?
Question: what green color means, or more exactly why is chat server green?
Yevgeniy
-
Last try...
To remove:
- dotted line from CCpulse to IxnServer; (an earlier post of yours in this thread marks this as optional - now you want me to remove it???)
- Routing Stat-server to UCS (enough to have from CCP Stat-server) DONE
To add
- Interaction Server to Classification Server DONE
- Email Server Java to Interaction Server (really two connections, both ways) DONE
- WebAPIServer to Interaction Server
Not sure about:
- IRD to Routing Stat-server. What is it for? Real-Time Stat Data look-ups for Interactions Queueing
Question: what green color means, or more exactly why is chat server green? External (non-Genesys) component
???
-
Hi Tony,
- in my previouse post, I was talking about "connection from InteractionServer to CCP Stat-server", not connection from Interaction server to CCpuls;
- "Real-Time Stat Data look-ups for Interactions Queueing", not sure IRD can do that...
- Chat server is native Genesys component.
- I've said " Email Server Java to Interaction Server (really two connections, both ways) ", not Email Server Java to Classification server. Also, sorry, I' was not accurate, but two one-way connections in different directions.
we are close...
-
Err...YevgeniyP why don't you are so kind to provide to Tony the diagram that you think should go? I believe will be faster and save N posts.
Regards
-
Unfortunately I have no such diagram. If I can get the current version in "editable" form, not JPG I can do something.
-
Awww, cav! ::)
I was quite happy to go backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards - noting which items had been added in earlier in the thread and then were removed later on - and then re-added. And then taken out again. ...and then re-added.....
I'm glad this wasn't a real item of work - we'd have missed the delivery date about 2 months ago... :)
YevgeniyP - can you play with this format...?
Tony
-
lol I know it is your hobby and you love it but I guess you may have something more important to do like go outside with your costume and beging the training ;D You know we have faith in you ;)
-
I've played a little bit
-
Thanks - I'll incorporate it this evening.

Not really sure how to take that remark... :)

I am new to this Genesys game and have to say, THANK YOU so very much for all your work on these Rough Guides, they are going to make my introduction to this brave new world, that little less painful.
-
I can't download this rough guides can someone send me a link please.
Thank you
-
Thank you very much Tony. I went to your site and got the files.
I don't know what I was doing wrong.
Thanks again Tony

Tony
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, iam sure it will help me to be a better Genesys consultant.
Iam currently working on GVP and we use ACD group routing to route calls to GVP, have you seen any advantages using Genesys routing over ACD group routing, Iam not trying to divert your thread, let me know if you think that way.
Thanks

Superb Tony, very Simplistic
-
tony,
Read your rough guide to ICON and INFOMARt...really good and thanks!! I am a newbie to this app/platform. I am trying to simply view the Admin console. In your doc you say to highlight the Infomart and right-click to get to the Configure->Wizard drilldown...When I right click do not get a configure in the drop down...Is my Confg Mgr not configured correctly? Is this a client configuration issue given the option is not present?
Any insight would be appreciated and thank you for taking the time to respond.
-
Hi,
First try selecting (left-click) the Application in CME, then right-click the Application Name as you float over with your cursor to obtain a floating/drop-down menu, where you should find the Wizard listed...
It may be, if you have installed the Application manually (instead of using a Wizard install), that the floating menu is not available - however I'm not sure how you would conduct a manual install of Infomart, so it should work...
?
T
-
Thanks!
I did try what you said..GIM is highlighted under the
Environment->Applications tree. the xxxx_InfoMart is highlighted and I right-click. I do get a drop down but there is no 'Wizard' option. The last is 'Properties' .
-
Hi,
Wizard is available in CME only if it was installed. You will find installation package on GIM CD - run setup.exe file from root folder of GIM CD on host where CME is installed.
R.
-
Thanks for the clarification Rene.
T
-
Yes and Thank You!.
I found some cryptic blurb in the help on CME re: it. Did a check on the installed Software and did not see it...this is what you guys posted. Seems the admin who installed it for me forgot this piece. Tony and Rene thanks so very much for your time...I am up and running.
Thanks again!

You are now my personal hero... I have a technical interview tomorrow but I am not familiar with Genesys (I'm skilled in Cisco ICM etc.) and finding training and overview info on the net has been a nightmare (Genesys are a tad errr... ambitious on training prices too!) but this is truly incredible.
Straightforward and succint. Great work and much appreciated.

I'm sorry - I really don't have the bandwidth that I once had - others have suggested other guides and I produced an SDK overview but... time is against me... :(

We have the tsunami that is Genesys heading our way this will be a great help to me as a genesys virgin, thanks !! ;D

Hi Tony,
Can you please share the Genesys Farmework Layer Guide which basically describes about each layer :)

Hi Tony,
I was curious if Genesys phone system could be integrated with an Incident Management system?
Example: When a user calls a support Help Desk, can Genesys be configured to automatically transfer the caller's information to the open call record so that the callers' information is displayed on the Incident Management screen, without it being manually typed into the call record?
-
Hi,
What you have described there is a core deliverable of CTI - and yes, it is possible with Genesys Solutions.
API's and SDK's from Genesys exist for this purpose - along with some other core CRM components...
Hope this helps?

Hi Everyone,
Tony Tillyer's "Handbook" has now been retired, after almost 5 years in circulation... :(
But don't worry! The Big Book Series is here - written by Tony and myself - there are also "Bite Sized" versions available at Google, Amazon/Kindle, iBooks, kobo and nook - with more eReader outlets coming soon;
The Big Book Homepage
The Big Red Book Series are fully re-written and updated for Genesys Version 8.x and they are intended as general guides for Business, IT, System, Solution and Senior Managers (just like your boss - and that means no more having to explain everything from the ground up! ;D ).
In time, the "Big Book" Series will eventually include;
The Big Red Books - for General, System, Solution and Staff Managers
The Big White Books - for Administrators and Supervisors
The Big Blue Books - for Operations and Support
The Big Green Books - for Deployments and Testing
The Big Black Book - containing everything for everyone!
Enjoy! :)

Nice works !!
When the administrator's book will be released ?
;D ;D ;D

I really am trying to find the time to continue at the moment... I am on the last few parts to the Reporting Red Book and then I will begin on the Admin Guides.
Thanks for your interest!

I bought the big read book one.
It's easy to understand, how each component work in big picture.
If you are management or non-technical, it's proper for you because it contains less of technical words.
So, you can adapt it to your presentation easily.
If you are new in Genesys, I recommend to read the Red one first.
If not just wait for the other series.
In my opinion, Genesys official documents are good enough to study but it take a lot of time to read the whole things.
AG's books short-cut it for you.
So, let's us know when Admin Guide is completed ;D :D ;D
-
...if Genesys want to contact me, I'll do them ALL on a commission basis... it'll be quicker to publish! ;D

The Big Red Book publications are now available for re-branding - for those of you in companies that may see the benefit of producing their own version in paperback, to use as an introductory guide & marketing materials for (potential) clients;

I see two Big Red Books on Google Play. One from 2014. I purchased the one from 2015 but it appears to be the 2014 edition. What is the difference? They have two different prices as well.

The Big Red Book eBooks will no doubt continue to be useful as general business guides to the technologies, including business uses, high-level processing, deployment planning, standard operations and standard support processes. However, it's been a while since they last saw an update so it's been decided to retire them, for this version. They were amended as "free to own" across all eReader platforms, today.
The next versions (for v8.2/v9.x) will be on sale, next year... watch this space for details!

how about a book on
Genesys Events and models
I know there is a book on genesys site, but i think it would be good if you guys write a book about it
make it simple to understand events and their meaning... this will help in trouble shooting call flows
what do you guys think?
-
IDK....
Are you volunteering?
-
I am not an expert on that sir,
would love some knowledge on that
-
Make a book simpler than what? Events, a sequence of occurrences...how you make that simpler?
If you really wanna master them, you must read and study. Do labs, have practice. No dummies book is possible

How can i download?

The free guides are not available for download, as eBooks. You can purchase a paper copy of the main volume.

Hey Guys
i am new to Genesys....actually i am having a training to be Genesys engineer but the documentation sometimes confuses me...
so after these years of experience in Genesys guys...what would you recommend me to do as a fresh genesys intern to get the knowledge and jdeployment done efficiently and in short time?
another question....is there any genesys documentation or any other third party can teach me how to read the log files and troubleshoot their components?
-
Install your own Genesys environment for testing purposes (this learn you almost all necessary things) from scratch. Read the available guides which documents the component/solution very well. In case, you have some specific topic/question feel free to open a new topis here.

As already mentioned, plus a learning curve containing;
[li]Start high-level with how a Contact Center operates - what channels, processes and technologies are involved.[/li]
[li]Learn how the Platform>Framework>Solution relationships operate and understand how they are supported.[/li]
[li]Learn how things are operated, administered and controlled from within the Genesys CIM Platform and Framework.[/li]
[li]Learn how a Solution is built - which component Applications and peripherals make them up - and what methods are used for them to interact and communicate.[/li]
[li]Learn the methods used to invoke state changes and interactions between specific Applications and components, to better understand logging.[/li]
[li]Use the documentation provided with the Solution Applications to understand what logging error messages exist - and what to do when they appear.[/li]
