Title: Voice Biometrics - what do you think?
Post by: exchelente on November 09, 2007, 07:54:07 PM
Just curious if anyone here has implemented voice biometrics with GVP.  What do you think?  I hear it can distinguish twins, but I've love to see that for myself!

We are currently doing some tests using a third-party application as well as something we have developed in house, and to be frank, it is still a long way off. It works best when client dials from a land line, but once it goes mobile, the whole hell brakes loose. And do not get me even started on Skype or Vonage. Skype is worse than cell, because it adds several new harmonics to the voice, making a voiceprint very very very different.

I have always suspected that major credit card companies use voice bio-metrics when they ask you for your name over the phone; however, I cannot get anyone to confirm. Anyone knows anything about it?

Hi Victor,
Thanks for the advice.  I wonder if you can create separate voice profiles for each person based on the connection type (land, cell, skype or voip)?  If the person creates their biometric profile using a cell, would it still recognize them if they called in again on cell?  Is the problem mainly when they create their biometric profile using land line, then switch to use cell?
Thanks!

You are asking difficult questions  :-\ Too much randomness due to way too many carriers that the call may or may not transverse. Worth a try, though. :)  What are you thinking?

Interesting.  I'm really curious about this technology, especially since I've heard claims that it can distinguish twins, and has no problem if you call in with the flu or something like that.  I'm a musician and frequently record in a studio, so something dealing with voice recognition is right up my alley!  There are audio plugins I have in my recording studio software that simulate stuff like tape/vinyl, and I'm sure there's some out there that simulate the sound of a voice through a cell phone... I wonder if that would work!
