Title: wild character search/find in CME
Post by: S on November 06, 2008, 07:51:42 PM
Silly question - but want to know.
I have been using CME 7x versions for a long time. In this version we can do a wild character search/find using the find tool.
Like, you can select the Type as "Person" and username as "gene*" and click "find now" to search the CME for all the persons whose username starts with gene.

At this new client location, we have CME 7.2.000.04 version. I am trying to use this wild character search, it doesn't work. I have to put in the whole username to find it. Any ideas why I cannot do the search with wild character * ?

Please let me know
Thanks
S

IIRC wildcard search is a 7.5 feature.

not sure what IIRC means!!

but wild character and case-insensitive search are the features since 7.0 versions of CME.

interesting!!!
Could that feature be turned on with an option in CME... hmm not sure either..
Tkt is opened with Genesys ... they do not have clue about it not working, ofcourse their lab tests worked ... they are still investigating it , lets see what they will come back with

This feature was introduced in 7.2.1 iirc.  The only search related option in CME is to make a non case-sensitive search. The default is false but can be overridden with each search.

btw... iirc = if i remember correctly

Aah, new features and versions all seem to blur together after a while. :p

I'm sure there was a wildcard feature added recently, perhaps wildcards in the filter boxes in CME, that's definitely new.

Well ...
this is what I got from Genesys
"The ability to use the search functions with wildcard characters was introduced in Config Server version 7.2.000.05."

So if you have your Config Servers 7.2.000.05 and above, you can use it.

And in CME go to View > Options > Case Insensitive Objects Find ( last check box) and select it, your search is always insensitive.

I find these features useful particularly when you are searching for range of DNs, VQs or know just a substring of the skill or agent name... no limits of using it , and check its status bar- it shows the total number of objects found in the search - in case anyone hasn't noticed it.

Hope this was useful info.
