I am able to manually connect to RTPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com using outlook........no clue why email server is not able to connect.

Can you ping RTPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com from the email server?

better yet, can you connect to the mail server?
cmd>telnet RTPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com 110 and see if you get a succesful connection
Title: Re: emails not serving
Post by: catanirex on August 26, 2009, 06:20:13 AM
When you connect using Outlook, are you using IMAP or POP3? Or are you connecting Outllok directly to Exchange server?

In the log I can see: "cannot connect to IMAP server KOPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com on port 143" - port 143 is IMAP.

In CME, has the Emailserver application, pop-client section the word IMAP instead of POP3?

Maybe KOPSNFM01A does not accept IMAP connections just POP3? Try changing it to port 110 and POP3 in CME.

So true, or maybe if this was working your mail admin guy disabled the IMAP protocol

Kevin,

I'm confused... If your server uses IMAP protocol then you have to specify IMAP protocol in Genesys Email Server Java configuration! You can't mix POP3 with IMAP...

Please check that both mail server hosts - RTPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com, KOPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com - are accessible (ping, telnet) from the host where ESJ runs.

You can try to add option "enable-debug" with value "true" to POP Client section to get debug logging on protocol level. It should work even for IMAP...

Rene,

Initially I was using IMAP, but as suggested by catanirex, i changed to POP3 and port as 110 (that too did not work). Also, i am able to ping and do a telnet from the host to those 2 servers KOPSNFM01A.corpnet2.com  and  RTPSNFM01a.corpnet2.com

Attached is the latest email server log.

Hi,
Please can you post the following output?
From the Genesys server open a DOS (cmd) command window and type:
telnet mailserver 143

Now your logs shows that it tries to connect to port 110 but your config says 143...are you sure the configuration matches the email server logs?

cavagnaro,

sorry for the confusion. That config was from before i have changed the port to 110 and type to IMAP.

Logs are after i have changed port to 110 and POP3. Thats the only change i have done and tested. by the way just got a word from sysadmin that we are using IMAP not POP3 so changed it back to IMAP.

as asked

Kevin,

Could you please add the option "enable-debug" with value "true" to your POP Client sections? I'm not sure it will work as documentation mention only POP3/SMTP protocols are supported by maybe it will... It should give us more details about what is wrong...

Kevin,

Sorry, I just found you are using Genesys Email Server Java version 6.5. In that case the name of the option is "debug" and not "enable-debug".

Kevin,

It seems that debug mode isn't very helpful... :( Haven't been done any changes on mail server side (upgrade to newer version, hotfix applied etc.)? It's really strange that you can connect to mail server using telnet but ESJ isn't able to connect. One question - have you tested connection using telnet under the same account ESJ runs? Have you tried to restart Genesys Email Server Java?

yup done all those.

It used to work before with same setup. we tested some thing around 8 to 9 months ago. haven't touched since then.

prod is working fine with same config (except the servers are different)

One more thing - any Java update on server where ESJ runs?

You can try to sniff network traffic and check what is happening there. It's really strange...

ESJ connected.

I used Ip address in config instead of host name. and it worked.

Does this mean your hosts file has the wrong entry?
