Hi all:
i have a question here about installing the GVP databases.... Can i create EMPS,EMS and obn manager databases on a seperate server other than where GVP is?
Thank you
-
Sure you can.
-
The problem i have right now is that how should i put the port number and SID with the server domain in EMPS? it doesnt like domain.name:portnumber:SID as Machine name of DBBridge of SPS of EMPS... EMPS indicates that no connection to the database.
thank you

EMP uses LDAP...so are you sure you installed it correctly?

hey Sunone is corectly installed? .....

Hi all
Due to our company's policy we are not allowed to have database installed along with GVP on the same server, so our dba created tables on another oracle database and provided this domain name port number and SID to me,
So how GVP can work with this structure? (we are using OpenLDAP not sunone) i can open the admin console on GVP server just have no connection to the database.
Someone help please..
Thanks in advance.

??? OpenLDAP is OpenLDAP not Oracle...you can't do such thing. When you installed it, it should prompt for the location of the LDAP Server...
The only DB you need is IF you use OBN, reporting, etc, but basic GVP doesn't use a DB as an SQL engine.

hi uhoo
GVP loads its configuration by SunOne or Ldap, its lika a mini DB that is on ur Server.... it is not an oracle database.
maybe u can have an oracl DB or MSSQl for var....but not for GVP solution.
u cann check GVP7.xxx for further info, if u need more help feel free to ask!

Hi,
As written in previous posts GVP configuration is stored in LDAP repository (OpenLDAP or SunOne LDAP Server) and not in relational database like Oracle or MSSQL. It is impossible to replace LDAP with some DBMS (database management system). But you would need DBMS for reporting databases and OBN database.

Hi All:
Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate that, after doing some research and asking some questions, i kinda understand what is happening now...Please correct me if i am wrong. GVP stores its own configurations on the server either using Sun one or OpenLDAP but also has a backup EMPS database(i call it backup dB..) that can be installed as an oracle DB and copy all the customer infos of GVP from LDAP for reporting purposes... Under the DBbridge of SPS of the server, you can setup the connetction to this backup database by filling with your Oracle DB machine name and your username and password. GVP is using SID intead of your DB server name as Machinname plus you need the tnsname.ora file to direct your DB connection.
Now i can see some data in my Oracle database, happy end~
Thank you all

Hi,
GVP doesn't support any backup database based on Oracle, MS SQL Server etc. Functionality you've enabled is used for reporting purposes so it is reporting database. You can find there information you're after but please don't consider that database as backup of GVP configuration. There is no process to restore GVP configuration from that database.

Hey,
LDAP has all the info need for starting up watchdog....
info in LDAP is the information what we find in gvp.ini file.
if you want EMPS reporting then you need DB.
Note : EMPS is GUI representation of gvp.ini
Thanks
