I know that this is a pretty old link, but I am really finding it very useful these days. Has anyone else noticed how much more meaningful it has become recently?

Asterisks integration with SIP Server will be a topic we will face almost weekly from now on, and I am amazed at the flexibility that both of those products offer. Unfortunately, here it is only showing how to use Asterisk as a gateway, without an ability to exchange attach-data between the two.
What I found is that actually, it is possible to do that as well, by using INFO message, meaning that now, you can have AsteriskNOW with Genesys SIP and attach-data can be shared between the two using simple SIP protocol.
This is really great, because it means that we can now add Genesys SIP to an existing Asterisk backoffice to extend its capabilities! Try and play with this!!!! Wow - now, Genesys, I AM IMPRESSED!
