Title: Server Reboots / Service Restarts
Post by: bklahm on December 21, 2010, 09:57:24 PM
Hello,

We are new to Genesys CTI and have been running on it for about half a year.  I was wondering if anyone out there has implemented nightly/weekly/monthly server reboots or service bounces of any sort.

Thank You!

There are a lot of factors to consider:
- The OS you are running
- Restart requirements within your organization
- Maintenance (Service Pack/Application Updates) Requirements in your organization.
- Redundancy / High Availability capabilities of your environment
- Most importantly, hours of operation of whatever Genesys services (call center/IVR/etc)

In my experience (8+ years in an end-user company and a Windows environment), we have rebooted either monthly or quarterly, only to keep up with corporate standards for MS security patch updates. We have gone longer without rebooting some servers without issue, but usually target quarterly for "peace of mind" (it is Windows, after all...)

If you are a Windows shop, I highly recommend any reboots are controlled and observed - that is, for example, MS Updates are not pushed out to the servers and automatically applied. If the updates force a reboot, this can cause issues if the servers do not restart in the correct order.
