hi,
i need to know how many licenses are actually used. but for most components i see only the amount of licenses that have been checked out - but this amount is just configured in CME.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the real amount of technically used licenses? it is clear that this can only be a snapshot for the time when i get these numbers, but that would be enough!
would be great to get some feedback,
kind regards,
andre

Yes - there is a product which can do that:
http://www.tonytillyer.co.uk/License-Billing-and-Auditing.php

You can interrogate the licence manager directly with
lmstat -c ./licence.dat -a
But as you say most applications will have checked out a block of licences, which may not actually be being used.

Hi,
thanks for the hint - I guess it is your product?
you wrote on the page that it supports up to 10.00 agents when used as a server component... 10.000 concurrent or configured agents?
where does it take the information from? from license manager?
@Steve: thanks for the info, that is already known but not helpful because of the mentioned blocks... ;) Is there any custom logentry in the server components (e.g. t-servers), that shows a state of used licenses?
kind regards,
andre

@Steve: That is correct - but there is another way and it was the whole purpose behind developing the License Auditing Service... to know exactly how many IB/OB/MM/WfM Seats you are using on your Platform... :)
@Andre: I support the Product but it is proprietary to ESS. The number of Agents may be a constraint - which is why there are 2 versions of the LAS - a Desktop Version and a Server-side Version. I'd rather not say "how" it's done, if you don't mind.... :)

i can understand to hide technical details. But may I ask if your service is based on phpLicenseWatcher?

@Andre: No, it isn't.
If you go to the page, you can request a demo... :)

yes, we are thinking about it and forwarded it already to our bosses. but the amount of agents is an issue: 10.000 is much too low for our environment, that was the reason of my question... why is this restriction existing? we need to have those conditions to be clarified beforehand, otherwise we won't have a chance to convince our bosses.

Hi Andre - I have sent you a PM...
-
we are not expanding, we are just a large telephone company, unfortunately with several genesys installations... since some years we are going to find a way to consolidate license management, but that is not so easy... and due to this we are going to measure the used licenses, to get a feeling how many are licenses are needed.
