Hi
My client has a requirement that when a Genesys alarm condition is met, a relay should be activated. This will help in integrating with client's existing relay driven alarm system from some other company.
Has anything of the sorts been done / required ?
Thanks.

What do you mean by "RELAY"? Do you mean a physical switch?
We are using Alarms and Reactions to notify the proper people when something bad happens. Can you just get by with email or SNMP?

No reason why it can't be done. Probably need a PC running a developed program as a gateway to recieve say an SNMP trap which it would then react to by activating the relay either direct through the serial port or through some sort of power interface.

Thanks for your response. The customer has a very specific requirement of being able to drive a physical switch, a relay, whenever a Genesys alarm occurs. This relay switch will be used for integrating with an already exixsting relay based alarm system.
Informing people using pager or net send message or email is not wenough for this customer. They definitely want interfacing with the relay.

Thanks for your response. Yes it certainly is feasible, just that in case someone has done it before, it is worthwhile exchanging some notes. If you know of this being done before, would appreciate you passing the information.

Just build an interface able to receive an email or SNMP trap and then send a signal through a computer port to activate the relay.
You can use paralell or serial port, but probably you will need an external electronic interface to drive the relay. This is to do it in a professional way.
You can build the whole thing quickly, just use PERL. If you are not able to use the paralell or serial port, you can use a MODEM to activate the relay. This is a little tricky but I can show you how.
