Title: Supported Windows OS Versions with GVP 8.1.x
Post by: mumtazalam2k on May 13, 2013, 06:32:34 AM
Hi,

I want to confirm if GV 8.1.4 supports Standard versions of Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 i.e. Win 2003 Standard

The documentation in supported OS just mentions 2003 / 2008 as shown below.

Genesys Voice Platform
Windows Server 2008 x64 64-bit 8.1.2+
Windows Server 2008 64-bit Compatibility 8.1.2+
Windows Server 2008 x86 32-bit 8.1.2+
Windows Server 2003 x86 32-bit 7.5+

Thanks
M

Check Release Notes too. Sometimes releases for support of new OS versions are faster than docs

Even the release notes does not mention if it is Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise.
Same with Windows 2008.

It only mentions Windows 2003 and Windows 2008.

That means that the software is supported both for Standard and Enterprise editions.

Are you sure? 2003 32-bit would be Standard, and 64-bit Enterprise.  So both 2003 and 2008 Standard editions are supported, but i'm not sure about 2003 Enterprise.

Supported Operating doc also says only 2003 32bit - http://www.genesyslab.info/wiki/index.php?title=Supported_Operating_Environment:_Genesys_Voice_Platform

I'm sure the 32-bit version will work fine on Enterprise though, but it would be a waste of money.

Both are supported, choosing between Std or Ent is your choice based on your needs...
32 vs 64 is a different history as you need special compilation for those platforms.

That is what I am also trying to highlight.
If I can use the Windows 2003 Standard or Windows 2008 standard, I will be able to save on Licenses Costs.
I hope that this in no way will impact any feature support like HA options supported in Win2003 Standard or Windows 2008 Standard.

I've always done installations over Std. Once only over Ent but because customer had those licenses and didn't want to use Std. His choice.
