Title: MS-SQL DBServer Installed on Red Hat?
Post by: pspenning on January 23, 2014, 02:33:30 PM
Hello Everyone,
We are roughly an 80% / 20% Linux to Windows Genesys environment (8.1.x) and we are beginning to distribute some of the environment globally.  Ideally, we would like to distribute these servers as all Red Hat.  However, we are also a MS-SQL shop and we have a need to install DBServer on Linux servers.  I have searched and searched for any possible way to connect a Genesys DB Server, installed in Red Hat, to a MS-SQL database.  We have the latest Microsoft ODBC drivers installed in Red Hat but it looks like the DBServer needs to recognize that.
Is MS-SQL Database functionality even supported with a Linux DB Server?
Thanks - Perry

no, it's impossible. to have connection to ms sql db you will need dbserver installed on windows platform only. this because of dbserver_mssql process even doesn't exist for non-windows dbservers.

OK - Thank You for the information.
I began looking for alternate solutions after posting my question.  Our main purpose was for InfoMart.  We will place ICON on the local Linux server in country and will then use the DBServer on a Windows server that is closer to the SQL Server in the U.S.
Problem solved....  I think...  ;D

Thank you again for the answer.

Try to analyze the ammount of traffic, maybe would be best to place INFOMART also close to the DBServer...and connect to INFOMART via your WAN/INTERNET link

Good point...  We are looking at a 10Meg link from Atlanta to Sao Paulo Brazil with about 300 agents in Brazil.  URS, SIP, a Regional SCS, ICON, and all of the supporting stats, etc. will be in country.  Perhaps we should just add InfoMart as well...
