Title: Infomart Reports for Crystal Reports
Post by: victor on November 13, 2014, 07:17:19 AM
Dear all,

I have been wrestling with a big dilemma over the last few weeks. We have in our hands very basic reports for Infomart built for Crystal Reports. I do not know how many people use Crystal Reports these days, but I can imagine that quite a few do. These reports are in no way 100% complete, and probably are very buggy. Nevertheless, they would make everyone's life very simple by a factor of G  ::)

The reason why I am struggling with the decision is because I know several of the people on the forum are making living by creating new reports for their clients, and I am a bit concerned that by releasing these reports, we in fact would be endangering their livelihood.

Thus my post: what do you think about us releasing this reports to The Internets?

Best regards,
Vic

I would say launch it, can help them too, modyfications of them will still give work to those guys. Customer can use them or not. Few will implement a report without any modification...no time something will need an adjust somewhere and someone will have to do it...

I vote for releasing them, Vic.

There is no reason not to - those of us who do make our living by developing and designing reports can simply add them to our growing portfolio.  And it is very rare that a client wants the "canned report", without some tweaks...

Just my thoughts, FWIW.

Damn - just read cav's note on the subject and it's almost exactly the same! lol

Hi Vic,

I say open source them. If they are the reports I'm thinking about then the buginess is due to the high number of non-standard complex stats they contain. If the stats came straight from Infomart then they would be far easier to use\support.

If anyone wants them customised then they should let me know - I wrote them!

I think the best way to go about it is to release them... Currently, they are the property of STAR and I just want to make sure that we do it in a way that everyone involved is happy with the result.
