Title: Genesys SIP Server 8 Consultant Exam
Post by: HAhmed5 on March 11, 2015, 02:50:25 PM
I am preparing to enter Genesys SIP Server 8 Consultant Exam by mid April, I needed advise on which documents/material/topics should I study, which parts have the most portion of questions. if anyone has previously passed the exam could he/she share the experience.
Also is there is any exam samples so I could be familiar with the questions specially it's my first genesys exam  ???

Thanks in advance for help  :)

I haven't passed the SIP exam, but I have a few others. It's really helpful to have some experience in deploying and configuring the solution you are certifying for. Genesys has a pretty good Exam Study "Guide" that has all of the information and a few sample questions. You can find it here: http://www.genesys.com/resources/training/certification/Exam_Study_Guide_GCP8_SIP.pdf

I have cleared the exam recently. I suggest to deploy the environment once so that you can able to answer scenario based questions easily.

I have 2 queations I hope someone could answer them,
1) true or false, it is possible to perform a two-step transfer by sip server without Media Server. (it's answered false in genesys documentation but I think it should be true)

2) is one Media server capable of providing all media services types or is there any media services types that cannot be served on the same media server?

I would agree with you, I think it should be true.

I would say that a Media Server is capable of providing all media service types.

Fra, a two step transfer means a consultation call, therefore sip server needs to hook one leg somewhere, which is usually muc on MS, as there is none, where does the call would stay?  I do agree if was 1 step transfer.

I disagree. Party A can put party B on hold in two ways without a music-on-hold server:
[li]RFC 2543 - although deprecated, by sending a re-INVITE with contact 0.0.0.0[/li]
[li]RFC 3264 - by sending a re-INVITE with tag a properly set (such as inactive) [/li]
See SIP Server option sip-hold-rfc3264 and here:

I think, that the MOH is played in both scenarios. You can probably try to disable MOH (sip-enable-moh) on SIP server and afterthat the call-legs will stay inactive. In any other cases, the MOH is played - i.e. MS is required.

As docs say:
sip-enable-moh
Default Value: No default value
Valid Value: true, false, na
Changes Take Effect: For the next call (if value is empty, changes do not take
effect until after application restart)

Set this option to true to enable music-on-hold for any party engaged with this
device in the call.
If this option is set to false in the device configuration, it disables the musicon-
hold treatment for any party that is engaged with this device in the call,
even if the device sends an INVITE request containing a hold SDP. If you set
this option to na (non-applicable), SIP Server processes an INVITE with a hold
SDP as a regular INVITE, by simply propagating that INVITE to the opposite
party without attempting to apply music.
Genesys recommends setting this option to either false or na on Trunk DNs
that represent gateways. This ensures that INVITE requests containing hold
SDPs sent from these gateways will not trigger music-on-hold to be played on
agent DNs.
The na value can be used on Trunk DNs only.
The question is whether a two-step transfer can be performed without MS. That would be yes, if I don't have  MS, as per the documentation (SIP Server deployment course, wiki etc), the 2-step transfer can be achieved without it, i.e. MS is not a mandatory requirement.
Clearly, it there's MS, sip-enable-moh is set to true etc, MS will be used and music played.

Yes, it is not mandatory, but strongly recommended (cannot imagine customer feelings without MOH)

Actually I am not talking about MoH but the call leg itself. Will have to test this and see parties behavior.

Party B should hear just silence.

Finally got round to taking SIP 8 exam myself and glad to say I passed as would have been very embarrasing not to! Answered all 80 questions in 33 minutes out of the 120 allocated  :)

TIP: Mark questions you are unsure about as you answer them and go back later since often later questions contain answers or hints towards the answer to previous questions.

TIP: If in doubt answer the question on the basis of the answer which makes Genesys look all singing and dancing and it is possible to do everything! Why write a question highlighting product defects or limitations ...

Pretty much the same here and would give similar advices. However,  the level of inconsistencies, mistakes and badly formed questions you come across the Genesys exams is simply a disgrace.
