High Availability in Configuration layer

Hi all,
could anybody explain how the high availability with configuration layer (configdbserver and confserver) works?

I know the only mode I can set is warm standby, but I was wondering how it exactly works. I have Genesys 6.1 suite running on HP UX servers, and the Oracle db is installed in a cluster (ie, I already have high availability of OS and DBMS).

If anybody already endured through this path, please help me.
