Add a Mobile Number for ICE...

(1/1)

tony:
There is an effort here in the UK to assist the Emergency Services in being able to contact your nearest and dearest, in case of emergency.  The concept is for you to nominate one (or more) people you would want to be informed if you were involved in an accident and re-save their number under the name "ICE" (In Case of Emergency).  Also, you could nominate more than one number, under ICE1, ICE2, etc.  In this way, should anything happen to you, the first thing the UK emergency services do is check your phone for ICE and call it, on your behalf.

This sounds like a great idea - it's simple and effective.  Personally, I think it could be something other countries could adopt - if they have no done so, already...  Has anyone else heard of this, outside of the UK?

Dave:
Actually, the ICE effort dates back about 4 years now.  It's been a multinational effort.  It did, to the best of my knowledge, originate in the UK, but is extremely widespread across much of North America and the UK already.  As law enforcement is my "side job", I can confirm that the first thing checked when looking at a phone of an unconscious or deceased victim is whether there's an ICE number listed.
