IPMX and SIPCS

I have noticed that there was a question about IPMX and Opt 11C.
I did not know that that many people were already using it.

I am more interested in finding the difference between SIP CS and IPMX.
When should one be used? What is the merit of using IPMX as opposed to SIP CS?

Here is what I know already:

IPMX is a central switching unit for all the voice.
SIP CS only decides on SIP routing and does not handle the voice itself.

IPMX can support about 200 concurrent sessions
SIP CS supports around 2000 sessions.

What I do not know:

Why would you want to use IPMX when SIP CS offers similar functionality with less components?
I do recall reading somewhere that IPMX is to be replaced by SIP CS, but perhaps I am confusing few different things.

So, when should one use SIP CS and when should one use IPMX?

Best regards,
Vic

  • I have heard from genesys that they are moving from IPMX towards SIP Server so the IPMX customers should upgrade to SIP Server as IPMX will not be supported in some time (2 years? - I don't remember).

Now you cannot order IPMX, only SIP Server.

  • I can't provide you with the link to this info. I suppose it is not in support.genesys.com but somewhere in the Genesys marketing materials site which I have no direct access to. I'll try to get the link from the collegues and I will let you know.

The info I have is from our Genesys region manager.

BTW You can find a description of the IPMX to SIP Server migration in the 7.0 Migration Guide (70g_mg_v1.pdf). Genesys has built the IPMX upgrade wizard to migrate IPMX to SIP Server.

    Leszek

  • I still have no link about this issue and no other clear info.

    But I have additional facts:
    - there is no IPMX in the latest Genesys price list
    - I found (in RevGen) a PowerPoint presentation about the SIP Server which claims that IPMX was planned to  "end-of-life" (so I think it should be eol now).

Mr.Kitty, I think I am not allowed to get this presentation for you, but you can ask your reseller. BTW he would be able to find clear message about IPMX.

  • Hi All,

I want to confirm that starting from release 7.2 SIP S replaces IPMX. There is not any development activites in IPMX, only bug fixing.
SIP S 7.2 includes some of the IPMX components, like (StreamManager 7.2 and DMX).
StreamManager may be used as a media server (play MOH) or collect digits (rfc 2833).
DMX may be used in cases if you need interoparability between SIP<->H323 prtocols.

    Regards,
