Universal Adapter

Hi,

I was in a meeting with our client today and Genesys people came in and said that ActiveX is going to be discontinued and that they want us to start using "Universal Adapter". Needless to say, search on Genesys Support site is not coming up with anything.

Has anyone else heard about Genesys ActiveX being discontinued later on this year? I cannot find it anywhere...

Hi Victor,

The information you've received are true. T-Library, ActiveX & Java Toolkits will start EOL process in 7.5 but Genesys will continue supporting old releases. The replacement is called "Universal SDK" which is a set of different SDKs.

And which technology are they going to use? I certainly hope not Java, or Tomcat or such things.
C++, VB, allow us to develop fast and light softwares, with Tomcat (GAD) i really have two bad experiences.

"Universal SDK" is, unfortunately, a misnomer -- it's a marketing term.  My understanding is that there will still be a number of SDKs available under that umbrella, but probably not the ones we're historically used to.  If you have access to DevZone, there are some good materials on the current set of SDKs there.

Generally, SDKs are available to support Java, .NET and Web Services.  The specific SDK to use will depend on the use case and the platform you want to develop in.

So, to make it simple:

Genesys ActiveX is slowly being phased out and it is being replaced by a myriad of technologies.
Also, to assure that Genesys has another opportunity to increase its revenues, all the futuree development related SDKs not only will require purchase, but will also charge user on seat basis.

So, before, we had framework license and then we used ActiveX anyway we pleased. Which means Softphone did not cost extra.
Now, not only will we need to pay framework license per seat, but then we would need to pay additionally per seat to use this.

Interestingly enough, the only way to connect to t-server is through the use of this Universal SDK.
So, even though the popup-functionality is already paid for in framework license, Genesys now will require you to pay additional fee to actually use it?

So, am I the only one who thinks that this is pretty much close to double-taxation?

To make it a Windows analogy, it would be nothing short of Microsoft selling you Windows and then charging you a fee to connect monitor and keyboard and mouse.

What good are Framework license (not to mention the routing license and so on...) if you cannot use them without paying ON TOP of that?

I really hope I am missing a very important point here!

Vic

It's beginning to sound on how Alcatel is also behaving, guess since the acquisition of the company those ideas are spreading to Genesys, i really like Alcatel products, not to tell Genesys, so many things to do, but if they think that the only way to make more money is to charge for everything and twice they will lose a lot of market and potential customers on a mid term.
Hope someone up there really see the problem and stop this crazy idea.
