hay guys... I have a question.

We are using VB based ActiveX customized soft phone for Genesys 6.5. We are going to move to Genesys 7.2.
Was wondering.... can we use this VB based Softphone for Genesys 7.2?

If we can use the same, do I need to do lot of changes?
We are usin this soft phone to handle phone contacts and non phone contacts (email)

Thanks.

Vivek,

Genesys says that TServers 7.x are backward compatible with TServers 6.x so your softphone should work properly as it is. But I would suggest you to make some testing before going to production. That's a good message. The bad one is that Genesys Multimedia 7.2 isn't compatible with Internet Contact Suite 6.5. There is no way to make your current version of softphone working because the communication protocol has changed. You have to re-develop your softphone to handle emails.

I heard that the SoftPhone built using the 6.5 Active X and Java are not going to be supported on the 7.5 version.  You should check with your sales rep to find out more info.  If this is the case, then you might want to start looking at the new API/SDK.

Note to ActiveX and Java in version 7.5 - It's very probable that ActiveX/Java Toolkit and T-Lib SDKs won't be available starting G7.5. It means that new features introduced in TServers 7.5 won't be supported in existing version of ActiveX/Java. But it doesn't mean that ActiveX becomes unsupported! Genesys just won't release new versions but existing ones are/will be still supported. EOL (End Of Life) phase usually takes 2 or 3 years so we can expect end of support in 2009 (my idea - without any guarantee).
