SIP Server = TServer SIP?

Hi guys,
I do have a question that came up after discussing with a commercial guy about Genesys SIP facilities.
He claims that he will sell a product called SIP Server and will have to buy more licenses for it. I asked what it differs from SIP TServer?...He was on limbo.
I explained what TServer SIP was and how I configured and made it work on lab. He said ah must be the same, and then the key question came, "where did you get the licenses?"...I replied that no licenses were needed as used the existing sdn and tdn licenses available already.
He was more confused and me too. He claims that he sells that as a totally apart product and can't reuse any existing license. ???
Now my guess is that Genesys is trying to bite from anywhere and sell it as a new licensed product. But as it is another TServer, and I know that I will no be charged by PBX basis, I can have 30 licenses of tdn and sdn and split them among an Alcatel TServer, a Cisco Tserver and a Symposium TServer, why I can't exchange one of this for a TServer SIP? Why Genesys will have to sell me something I naturally can do?

Am I missing something here? Does anybody knows a explainable reason? Some feature or something that a new sellable license will not do? Will I lose support if I decide to install a SIP TServer on a customer?

Thanks in advance for any input

We have customers who use TServer SIP.

The licences used are the same one as for traditional TServer (sdn and tdn) and can be shared between each TServer.

One of our customer removes Nortel agents to pass them in agent Sip, we adapt simply the number of licences used in each TServer.

I am not informed of new licences for SIP Server.

Be weary on this issue, I have heard the same thing from our account team when we purpsued SIP. Its like anything with Genesys or Avaya for that matter, you may be able to technically do it but there is alwas a cost.

Genesys will claim SIP server is a seperate product and there fore you need to purchase seperate licences, even though any will work.

;D Yeah I know that, technically I can install GCNThick without buying any license but will never be correct to do so, imagine I need support for it...
I have opened a ticket on Genesys about this issue :D want to see how tech contradicts commercials  :P

I've just been looking at the price list again and it says:"Genesys CIM Platform (SS/MS) as a pre-requisite for SIP".

To me this looks like to do inbound routing with SIP Server the costs = CIM + SIP Server + Inbound Voice. This looks like double charging but look at the savings to be made by using Asterisk rather than a rather expensive PBX.

Pavel,

You don't have to buy "Inbound Voice" license for SIP Server. SIP is considered to be "an interaction" so the only prerequisite is CIM. Of course, having multi-site configuration (TDM + SIP) means you need "Inbound Voice" licenses as well.

to Cavagnaro - There is no difference between technical license for standard TServer and for SIP Server. SIP Server is "just" standard TServer with integrated SIP switch so it need SDN and TDN licenses only. From business licensing perspective the situation is different. SIP is licensed as separate media/interaction so you have to buy SIP TServer licenses even for existing places having CIM + Inbound Voice licenses.

Well according to Genesys Tech Support I can reuse the already bought licenses and will have no problem with their support.
My ticket number is 330865 just in case.
I do know that Commercial Info is sometimes different from the real one.
I'll give it a shot at my own lab, what can I mess. Then will ask for a support for it and see what happens.

hehe or they are reading us or what, after a couple of hours the tech guy told me that someone told him that I need to buy a new license for using this, that technically is possible but not supported by them.
Good to know we are being read :D
