Has anyone out there had any experience with v7 components yet? If so, how did your migration go?

Hi, Mark,

we have just finished migrating to 6.5. If possible, I would like to spend the next two years not worrying about the next migration. Unlike 5>6, the difference between 6 and 7 is hardly worth a major release. Does anyone know the reason for G7 not being just another minor upgrade for G6.5 and instead being called G7?

Marketting ploy?

I have almost completed the upgrade on our 7 sites and so far I like it. I was a little concerned about the licensing changes at first, but after learning more about it I was less apprehensive. I have heard from several people that the upgrade is not worth it, but I think people are expecting a major change such as 5.2 to 6.1. The changes are less dramatic than that, but there are several enhancements worth noting.

IRD has a debug feature now for strategies and no longer requires URS to be restarted to when monitoring suddenly stops.

Statserver has a checkstuckcalls option (two of our sites are Nortel and those of you using Nortel will understand this one).

CCPulse 7.0 allows users to print the historical data that was implemented in 6.5 and also has a formula option that is very useful.

Datasourcer 6.5 would stop sometimes at our site and now that we are using 7.0 we no longer have that issue.

Almost all of the applications start faster and require less CPU and memory usage.

If you are interested in upgrading to 7.0 I would suggest reading the G7 customer guide. These are just a few item I thought worth noting. I would also suggest that anyone considering the upgrade should be aware of their current licensing and research it before the upgrade, because if you are currently overusing your licenses you may need to order more to upgrade. I admit I have been a little slower in the 7.0 upgrade than the 6.16.5 since the 6.1 to 6.5 was not as drastic. Also I am a customer and do not work for Genesys or a third party vendor. If anyone would like to email me I would be glad to discuss what we have done and the advantages or problems that I have encountered.

  • many thanks for your information. I must admit I am a little bit worried about the licensing but I guess its because I havn't looked into it enough yet. Do you use the Genesys supplied softphone or your own one? I have heard conflicting reports about when moving to version 7 the old ActiveX Toolit becomes obsolete and we would have to use a .net version.

G7 in and of itself does not make the ActiveX toolkit obsolete. The ActiveX Toolkit is no longer offered, and will be replaced by a .NET toolkit in the next quarter or so. Whether you're running G6.5 or G7 won't have any impact on the support level for ActiveX (I don't know if the toolkit has been end of life'd or not, but that's independent of the version you're running).

Steve's comments about G7 are an excellent summary of what's available in G7 now. Most of the enhancements that have been delivered so far have been around performance improvements and some feature additions. The bulk of the NEW material for G7 will be evident with the product releases that will come over the next 6 months. The reason for making this a major release vs a minor release will become very, very evident.
