ICON - filtering customer data

I am looking to filter customer data within the ICON logs, I have applied the log filter data option within the tserver logs and found that this option does not work for the ICON logs.

Does anyone out there have any idea how this can be applied?

• Hi Sue,

Do you mean custom data, as in attached data - or are you looking to extract something from the ICON logging? Or would I be right in guessing you're trying to get something out of the ICON ODS...?

• Hi, Sue,

are you filtering directly from text logs or from DB? May I ask why you are filtering data through text logs? Perhaps there is an easier way to do what you need - what are you trying to accomplish?

Best regards,
Vic

• Hi Sue,

I use ICon, too,
However, there is not the thing that I watched the function of "log filter data option" with a manual.

What did you set in ICon option or TServer Option?
Or is it an debug option beginning in "x-" of log section?

• we are currently using GVP and it passes a url which contains customer policy number etc. To filter this data out from the tserver logs i have created a section in options called log_filter_data the set the specific URL to hide this then replaces the full URL with ****.

The same URL is passed to the ICON logs and I am wondering if there is a simular process to hide the URL for ICON.

• Hi Sue,

According to the Framework docs (rather than just the deployment/admin manuals for ICON), you should apply a new Section>Option to the ICON Application;

New Section Name: Log-Filter
Option: default-filter-type
Option Selection: hide

This implies that any Key Value Pairs being passed into the Log show the full Key Name but the Pairs are replaced by asterix's.

To be honest, I haven't tried it myself - but it looks like what you need...?

PS: Somebody close by mentioned that you might want to check that you are using dashes, rather than underscores.... ;)

• Hmmm..  So, the settings are relational to KVP's and it doesn't work for the $tring you are looking to mask?

Is there are possibility of converting your string to a KVP - or do you consider that it is a KVP already?

• Vic - there is now a standard setting for logging, apparently for any Server Application, that implies that you should be able to mask sensitive data.  It works on the TServer Apps, to mask KVP's...

The problem is, it doesn't seem to be "working" for the ICON Application.  Settings can be applied but the senestive data is still there, in it's full glory, for everyone to see.  Not ideal when you consider the whole point is to extract customer data through the application and the (verbose) logging for it is showing the same level of detail...

We're just trying to work out why it doesn't mask the data.  My suggestion is that the $tring which requires masking may not be recognized as the same type of data as you might find in a KVP - and for Sue to check to see if it can be updated as such, to ensure it gets masked accordingly...

Clear (as mud!)?

• Sue,

I've just re-read this thread and - probably for the first time ever on this Forum - I'd advise raising a ticket with Genesys....  ???
