Genesys Express uses SQL Server Express if you wish to use it to when you install. SQL Server Express has limitations on licensed usage and on a technical level (small max size of DB). If you want to use it for dev\play purposes then you should be OK. If you want to use it for Production then my answer is don't!

Hi Pavel,
thanks a lot for your prompt reaction. As I understand, you cant recommend to use SQL Express for production systems, correct?
Because of limitation of max DB size. Is there anything else what can limit my system with SQL Express? Performance?

You need to check the commercials of the license with SQL Server Express. Take it from a long time Genesys person  - don't use SQL Server Express in Production.

Did u need HA in production? Yes, of corse. And for this  - forget about SQL Express in production.

Not only DB size, but number of current transactions as well. Express never would run a ETL or ODS for more than 10 agents with predefined stats, when ODS begins to work and ETL as well Express simply will not be able to handle those requirements. Forget also trying to use it for a OCS solution or will be slow as hell with N errors and finally any result with the call.
I recommend always Enterprise because when ODS, ETL and OCS grows too much even Standard edition stays short on performance.

SQL Express is a good DB to use when it is something small and you need something to roll out fast. It gets the job done, but you are pretty much forcing the user to upgrade to SQL Server Enterprise later down the road. What is worse, DB size is going to be a major obstacle even before you know it, because once it is full - it is FULL!

Another problem is SQL Express does not use multiple CPUs - just one, so if you have more than one CPU (like probably most of server should), you will see only one of the cores active while the rest is just dead-lining.

Our SIP Recorder is using SQL Server Express and boy, oh boy, did we have to run and migrate the data... Roll it out and then replace provided you have the licenses.

Thank you All,
I opened a SR to Genesys Support. But if there is a real porobelm with number of current transactions, then I believe that SQL 2005 Express is out of game...

Hi Jan (Cau Honzo :))

SQL Server 2005 Express has no limitation related to number of concurrent transactions. The only limitation is related to usage of 1 CPU and maximum size of database 4 GB. Of course, some enterprise features like parallel execution, on-line backup etc. are no available. You can find detailed info here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345154(SQL.90).aspx

You can use MS SQL 2005 Express for Genesys and everything should be working fine but I wouldn't recommend you to do so. I think that license for MS SQL Server Standard Edition isn't so expensive to give reason for using Express edition.

BTW I would doubt that answer from Genesys TS will be - "we do not support MS SQL 2005 Express" as they didn't make tests with this database.

René

PS. Pozdrav kluky.

Hi Rendo,

kluci zdravi back (Tibor). Yes thats what I thought. No tests, no support. I wanted to verify that before we will made a new customer installation and fail into the trouble. We already made all necessary steps to correct situation.

Thanks again for your comments
