GVP Sip In Front or behind

Hi,

I do not really understand the case studies for using the In Front Mode Architecture or the Behind Mode architecture when GVP is integrated with the Sip Server.

What are the advantages to use one or the other.
How can I choose between both architecture and why?

Thanks for the answers.

phisycally will be behind, however in Framework must be declared as an Infront IVR as the SIP ports can't be monitored.

Well Cavagnaro, if you refer to GVP Sip Server Integration guide, both modes In Front and Behind exists.
But the guide does not compare these 2 arquitectures describing advantages and drawbacks of both.

Perhaps I misunderstood what you said?

Seems to me more a decision on your environment rather than a pro/cons option

• Stand-Alone
• In-Front (IVR Server configured for In-Front mode, and GVP also
configured for In-Front mode)
• Behind (IVR Server configured for Behind, and GVP usually configured
for In-Front, though sometimes, in blended TDM/IP environments,
configured for Behind)

I run behind and in front at the same time.  Behind supports an offering where calls drop into Avaya ACDs.  Loads of reasons why we configure it this way, but the main one is that self service calls are a very small minority of the traffic.  Minimal need for treatments etc, so it's cheap enough to do it in the ACDs.  I also run in front mode for an offering where all calls go to the IVR and a minority go to agents.

Without going into a lot of details, the best single question to ask is what % of calls will go to an agent, and if it is the majority, then perhaps behind mode might make more sense for you.

Thanks for the answer Guilden.
I think what you say applies more for TDM.
Using SIP, all calls always pass through Sip Server antes de chegar ao GVP.

I read GVP Sip Intergration guide again, and it is even more complex than I thought.
Because you have 3 configurations :
GVP In Front with IVR Server in front
GVP In Front with IVR Server Behind
GVP Behind with IVR Server Behind

And manual says for example :
In blended or pure environments, where SIP Server acts as a SIP proxy for
GVP (but does not function as the soft switch), and GVP is placed behind a
TDM or hybrid switch, the IVR Server might not be connected directly to the
SIP Server.

I am lost... GVP must be configured in front when it is behind

Actually we've been pure VoIP since 2003, no TDM involved.  Unfortunately I can't upload a picture of our environment due to security and legal reasons, or it would be easy to see in a picture.

Genesys' White Paper SIP Server 7.5.0 / GVP Integration “Behind” Mode has a diagram and good information to explain it.

If you have Genesys Support access, the whitepaper is located here:  https://genesyslab.com/support/dl/retrieve/default.asp?item=B3BFC6DABE22B62AAE32A6CE3A3E47AF&view=item

Hi,

You may check the pages 399 & 400 of the GVP 7.5 Reference Manual.
There's a feature comparison table.

As a rule of thumb in my case, always use Behind mode, unless you start you start finding yourself restricted by it.

Everything else just makes for too much of things to go wrong. This way, it is the simplest and cleanest integrated way of having GVP as part of your Genesys SIP solution.

I hope it helps!
