GVP 7.5+ with Cisco

Hi,

I have an opportunity to propose GVP with the customer's current Cisco IP PBX, but i am stuck on what is the recommended integration?

Is GVP (with Dialogic boards) via E1 connectivity to Cisco supported ?
Is H323 preferred ? or should we go with SIP ?

The "Genesys 7 Supported Media Interface Reference Manual" document (70g_ref_smi.pdf - pg 51), appears to only indicate that GVP via H323 is supported, which i find hard to believe.

Can someone advise? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Patrick,

You should Propose SIP Server + GVP with CISCO IPCC which is currently ideal scenario in integration with cisco. Use Genesys SIP Server for GVP and you'll be integrating it by using IVR Infront option.

Any particular reason why you suggested having GVP in-front of the Cisco IPCC? most of our deployments tend to be behind the pabx.

Hi Patrick,

Yes, the only official supported integration is via H.323 protocol. That situation is caused by a fact that support of SIP protocol in Cisco CallManager wasn't good in the past. Now the situation is better with CCM version 5.x and it's possible to integrate GVP with CCM using SIP (but not officially supported).

CCM doesn't support CTI monitoring of H.323 or SIP extension so GVP has to be deployed in 'in-front-of' mode.

It's recommended to use SIP Server when doing integration via SIP. You can find document describing integration between SIP Server and CCM 5.1 on Genesys TechSupport website as well as document describing deployment of GVP behind SIP Server.

thanks for the advise.

An "in-front-of" mode, would complicate things a little for me, as this is a multi-site deployment - e.g. calls from site 1 will be routed to site 2 via IP trunk before the customer is being prompted by GVP.

If it is an "in-front-of" mode, would I have to route calls from site 1 to site 2 via PSTN then?

Hi Patrick,

No, it won't be complication . In-front-of mode doesn't automatically mean that GVP has connection to PSTN. It means that GVP ports are virtual and are not mapped to extensions on the switch. So in your case, GVP will be connected to Cisco via H.323/SIP trunk but physically it will be "behind" Cisco that will provide connection to PSTN.

Call flow for your scenario will be: PSTN -> CCM-site1 -> (trunk) -> CCM-site2 -> (H.323/SIP trunk) -> GVP
