1 word, a complete different world.
I'd recommend to read all guides before and understand the interface and new location of components.

And when GVP 8 becomes readily available? Will a case of bourbon be enough?

An automatic hammer will be the best choice then I believe.

Ok, we had our humour and it's black at that!

I never touched 6.x GVP, but given what I know of it from a telco that has yet to upgrade from 6.x, the delta into 7.x was extremely massive.

My experience is from 7.2 onward, so I am afraid that the issues I am aware of are quite minor compared to your what appears to be a full forklift upgrade from 6.x

I consider the upgrade from 7.2 to 7.6 to be a forklift upgrade - we had to build a full platform in parallel .  As far as getting knowledgeable help from Genesys regarding GVP upgrades regarding which bits just might work together from different releases as we upgraded our large platform, the people that know GVP well enough to help fit on the head of a pin.  Lots of arguments internal to Genesys and the reality is that they have only tested tiny systems in their labs that are light years away from reality.

I've been planning for the 8.2.1 upgrade ever since they announced the VG purchase.  I was glad to see the new architecture, but realized that it was going to be like mixing gasoline and water while wearing a suit of flames.

You might wait to hear from those who have experienced a 6.x GVP upgrade to 7.x .  Hopefully all those that have accomplished it haven't slit their wrists afterward!

What's the main difference if you don't mind asking?
Web server and VCS processing VXML, I guess we'll not have VPM but EMPS for application control.

BTW, we are going with Dialogic not SIP.

Thanks.

Hi,

I hope I am not breaking etiquette here, I am just a guest. This is not an advertisement but the company I work for has a lot of experience with GVP 6.5.4 (Network Edition) also with 7.2 Enterprise and some with Version 7.6.

From my experience, it is better not to go near GVP Version 7.5 as it was the first merged (EE+NE) version and we had lots of problems with this. Skipped straight to Version 7.6 which is better. The Enterprise Edition Version 7.2 was in our opinion the best and most stable version of GVP but is too old now to offer customers.

We have several lab systems - I do not know how anyone could even think about doing a live installation without one. We are trying out V8.0 now but have come up against some issues.

Where are you located?
We are in central Europe.

Regards,
JOB
