Genesys Desktop Sip Endpoint - Dial Tone

Hi all,

I have some issues to have a dial tone using Sip Server and Genesys Desktop Sip EndPoint.
Anyone had same difficulties?
I would be happy to get some solution for it

From a general point of view, I would be interested to know which device most commonly handles dial tone?
Is it the Gateway
Is it the Endpoint

did u run serch deep in the forum? i remember that we already talk about this.
my point - endpoint of course got and respond on SIP request. But what he answer and that he answer - all it's do under the sip server control. if u check sip server manual u can found many option that can affect the ring back generation. but u mast also check the media gateway config, because many of it use own config to translate phone-event between SIP and TDM and vice versa.

also, if u route call by routing strategy i confirm that use ringback treatment it's good solution.

WBR Timur

Hi Timur,

In the forum, there are a lot of things about ringback for inbound calls, but I did not find anything about dial tone of outbound call.

Only one option seems to exist for Sip Server to generate tone on dialing outbound calls : ring-tone-on-make-call
But the options it requires (like refer-enabled=false) are not compatible with the options that must be set on Genesys Endpoint Sip Endpoints (which are documented in GDesktop deployment guide).

As for Gateway, I would be curious to know how dial tone works when using audio codes or other type of gateway.
If sbdy has a sip callflow, I would be interested.

Remember that in SIP the tones that you hear are emulated by the gateways.

ouh =) today so many diferent hard things  - i miss what u ask about dial tone not about ring tone  :-[. did u mean what your agent can't hear any DTMF during oubound call ? or u ask about tone from remote abonent what u operator mast but can't hear after dialing but before remote abonent answer ?

anyway - what version SIP T-Server, GAD and SipEndPoint u using ?

Sip Server version 7.6.000.62 (last general)
GDesktop : 7.6.001.01

Cavagnaro, do you have a callflow where dial tone is provided by Gateway?
This means that a RTP connection is established before getting 200 OK, I would like to know how it works.

Should'nt SIP Phone provide a default dial tone to deal with internal calls?

Timur, I am talking about the tone you get before remote party answers the call.

well, what about media gateway ? look likes it's not support or misconfigured payload type for phone-event. or if u used in-bound signaling it's mast generate tone event by itself in the RTP-stream. check also the "early media" and progress indicator capitables of your media gateway.
for detail of phone-event behavior and event flow u can look in RFC , if i not mistake latest RFC that discribe tone event proccess it's a RFC 4733 and of course general based on RFC 2833.

and also, try check the SIP message on the server and client side. and if after dial out u see sip event "100 Trying" instead of "180 ringing", check the "event-ringing-on-100trying" option at genesys sip t-server. it's mast be set to "true".

Thanks Timur,

Unfortunately, my Gateway does not support Early Media.
As for inband signalling, I think that for the tones to be delivered in RTP stream, I need RTP Stream.
And to have RTP Stream before the communication is established (200 OK), I need Early Media...

I checked with other types of Sip Phones like Snomphones.
They are able to deliver ring or dial tones to the agents.

And if you look in configuration file of Genesys Sip Endpoint, you even find wav files to deliver ringin and ringout.
And the configuration file of Genesys Sip Endpoint mention these files.
So that it is probably for future release.

But I am so surprised Genesys deliver a softphone which is not even able to deliver such tones to the agents!!!
