Hi guys,
Any experience with this idea? Pros/Cons? I don't like the idea but customer insists on do it. I may agree to install the GVP on VMWare but the TTS/ASR?
Thanks

I did it on a test environment back in 2006 and it worked with no problems. The larger project (Genesys was only a small part) never went to production so I can't say about production environments.

Does Genesys even support TTS on VMWare?

No they don't, however customer is still asking for this. I will have to test it myself and see how it goes but be clear with them that no support is given.

With 7.6 it is a very bad idea.  With 7.2 and before, GVP controls the rate at which the RTP messages are sent out  by writing a temp file and then playing it back, but GVP 7.6 simply sends at the rate it receives it from the MRCP server, which means that you are placing a lot of faith in the ability to process the RTP stream in a virtual environment.

It works in the Lab, but would hate to try to manage it in production if there are more than one call at a time using TTS resources.

cavagnaro,
Do you know how many concurrent TTS sessions this environment would handle at peak?  I may be overstating the risk because we're an extremely high volume environment, so I am very cautious.

Also, what TTS engine and version is it?

In a peak well 30 as we have to simulate a full PRI for stress tests.
We will use Nuance and not sure of what exact version yet, CD's have not arrived yet.

OK, then I definitely would not recommend having this run on a virtualized server.  If your customer wants to try it, then make sure that they sign off on a risk disclaimer that you do not recommend it.

We have run everything GVP on VM in our labs and regardless of what Genesys says, some pieces can run OK under VM.  But today the only GVP pieces I feel comfortable running in VM are:
[li]EMS servers[/li]
[li]Any Databases that you may add such as customer specific reporting DBs[/li]
If you feel really lucky, IPCM has tested OK in our labs, but given the low server count needed due to scaling, we're not planning to try this in production soon.

;D Thanks
Genesys sent us an official letter saying NO VMWARE for GVP because of RTP. Case closed hehe. Customer will have to decide if go without support or buy real hardware.
Thanks guys
