I have enabled ETL_Purging on my datamart database for the first time on a 7 1/2 year old system!!!!
We have 7 1/2 years of data and I have set to keep for in ETL Assistant to 8 years. Added the ETL_Purging to the ETL_Service options and update the pruge.properties file on the server i.e set purge to run for the first time.
I restarted ETL_Service and monitored the server.
The java process for ETL_Purging started on the server and I saw output form the purge in the etl.log file as below - one for each report listed in ETL_Assistant (there were a lot more so didn't include them all)

Az I had purposely set keep for so no data would be deleted I was a little concerned when I saw the redo log switches go from 2 hourly switches to 20 second switching.
If no data had been set to be purged i.e. no modifications to the table what is causing the redo to flip round.
Thanks,
