Has anyone out there successfully upgraded from Meridian Link to Symposium with MLS.

  • We did exactly that, moved 8 Nortel M1 switches from MLink G5.x to Symposium Link G6.x (6.1 and 6.5). What kind of issues are you concerned about?

  • I think everyone here who is using Meridian had to go through it. Over all, it is a painless procedure, almost requiring nothing from your part except for getting Symposium server instead of MLink one.

You must be aware of several things though:

    1. Unlike MLink, Symposium does not support Service 101 (or RegisterAll). So, you will get only events for DNs defined in your CME (before you did not have to register them)

    2. You musy register all the phones in Symposium before you can use them.

    3. Also, I recall that the number of maximum messages supported using SLink is less than that of MLink, but I am no longer sure.

Other than that, be ready for less stable PBX connection, with a lot of additional maintenance and overall headaches. From Genesys perspective, everything stays pretty much the same. So, I would not lose my sleep over it UNLESS I was responsible for PBX part as well :)

I have upgraded dozen of sites here and so far, so good :)

I am very interested in talking with you regarding the stability of the Symposium Link. I am responsible for both the PBX and the Call Center.

I was browsing the meridan stuff and saw your comment here. It looks good but one thing this statement:
    2. You musy register all the phones in Symposium before you can use them.
is incorrect if you mean you have to set them up in SCCS. With Genesys you normally would use SCCS with 1 agent license and no TN configuration in SCCS. Do you mean that Genesys has to register sets with the PBX via the MLSM link?

  • Hi, ED,

you are right about selling SCCS with only one license when you are planning to use Genesys. Now that you mention it and I think about it, I think you might be right. One thing that always confused me was the fact that Symposium Link unlike MLink does not support RegisterAll command, therefore you need to specify directly what DNs you plan to control. I recall accessing Symposium and defining DNs and respective TNs before I could use them in Genesys. Am I wrong?

You do not have to define TN's ( or should not ) in SCCS to use Genesys. But you do register each DN via tserver as you stated to monitor. You may be glad TRegisterAll doesn't work, it gave me lot's of heartache on an ROCKWELL shared PBX. Out of 500 concurrent agents I only cared about 70 but I saw events on all set/agent activity.
