So, your new boss knows you don't know anything about Genesys but he is prepared for you to train yourself, to support his Platform.

Run - run very fast!

His post is unconventional, but I don't find it shocking that someone untrained on a niche area is given at the beginning some manuals to start from and get a rough idea about it. Or everyone on this forum was a Genesys guru prior to starting working with it?

If then he is left there in the lurch and, completely unskilled, has got the onus of managing a platform, well, that would really be a totally different conversation..

I take your point - and, in that case;

Introduction manuals are okay as the first step.  But before you jump in with both feet, you really should get some proficient training through a reputable source...

...and, to actually answer the question, in the "bigger picture":

Enterprise: Big deployments (generally 500+) - lots of components to be deployed and configured.
Business: Smaller deployments (generally >500) - some components already configured for deployment.
Cloud: Off-Site deployments, based on Enterprise edition.
Hybrid: Off-Site/On-Site (Enterprise or Business editions) deployments.

Maybe his boss means single tenant multi tenant deployments? ISCC? Multi site?
