I am working with our hosting company trying to understand what had happened, because we did not schedule any sort of maintenance.

It seems like we are missing quite a few days. What is really staggering is the number of days that is missing. Amazing how two weeks worth of data is gone. As always, this had to happen during a three-day holiday...aaarghh.

  • Ok, it seems like our hosting company, who I thought was better than average is really really lazy and cannot even do a good job of recovering a system.

According to them, they had a "node" problem and they recovered from an earlier backup. Interestingly enough, for them "recovering" means "full image" recover, so, instead of just switches servers and mounting the drives with recent data again, they recover from an earlier backup image. What is worse, they cannot even recover from the right backup...

And of course, they thought it was not big enough to even notify that suddenly all of our websites are about a week old!

Can we recover the data? I will look into it, but since it will take time, it will be very hard to then merge it together. I will look into trying to do it, but unless I get some new information, it is extremely unlikely. God damn...seriously, you would think hosting company would be better at that!

Even at a call center we have some sort of virtualization or DR in place...Arrggh! :'(
