GExpress fails to install in NT domain

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced problems with installing Genesys Express in an NT domain? We have successfully installed Express on a Windows 2K standalone server and on a Win2K server in a 2000 domain. However, if we try to install on a Win2K server that is a member of an NT domain, the install fails and reports "Deployment Wizard detected domain setting of this machine is missing. Wizard cannot continue..."

The IP address is picked up correctly by the wizard, but the domain field is blank. This is despite the machine being in the NT domain, logging on as a domain administrator etc etc.

Is anyone aware of any issues with Win2K operating in an NT domain and where is the install wizard looking for that domain information (we have tried registry settings, host files etc...)???

As ever, any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

For information...

The problem did not lie with NT at all (!)

Apparently, this is an issue that has cropped up before, but Genesys have not yet chosen to include it in the deployment documentation...

When installing GExpress on your Win2K server, you must ensure that the server is part of a domain and that the full domain name is specified in the 'primary dns suffix of this computer' field, which is found by clicking the 'more' button of the Network Properties tab, of the System Properties of My Computer. This has the effect of populating the registry key
"HKLM|System|Currentcontrolset|Services|Tcpip|Parameters|Domain Reg_SZ"
With the value of the domain name.

Your Network/Systems department specialists are probably scoffing and saying "Well, of course you have to set the domain name in the primary dns suffix field...!" But, hey this GExpress thing is supposed to be a 'oneclick wonder', right?!

  • Hello, mate! You've seem to be having the same problem we had before and I almost bit my head off trying to figure it own. What you need to do is run the darn thing on the DOMAIN SERVER or it won't work.
Oneclick wonder, eh?Youwonderwhyyououghtit kinda one if you ask me.
