Question: Stream Manager AND Media Server at the same time?

Good Day All,
Probably a simple question, but I can't locate a clear answer anywhere.  Is it possible to have Stream Manager and Media Server operational at the same time?  I am looking to maintain a recording solution with Stream Manager but migrate messaging and music to Media Server.

Thanks for any insight - Perry

This deployment is not recommended and I am not sure if it is technical possible. Is there any logical reason for this deployment? Why do you not want recording through MediaServer?

Thanks for the response...
There is no technical reason why we wouldn't want to use Media Server to perform the recordings.  I was just looking to break the project in to two parts.  Get Messages and Announcements moved over and then move the Recordings over.  I did not set up call recording in the strategy so I am a little less familiar with it's inner workings.  But as I write this, I am pretty sure there isn't much difference on the front end because the VoIP services are what controls that.  Meaning the only difference is Media Server instead of Stream Manager on the back end.
I guess it comes down to licensing...  ;D

I appreciate the information.

I never used MediaServer with NETANN protocol (protocol used by StreamManager), so cannot let you know with real-life experience. But in this mode is theoretically possible use StreamManager with MediaServer at same time - you have to configure related VoIP objects within CME to point to the right IP address (SM or MS), but no one does suggest this mode - it can brings other issue and it makes any further analyse harder. From my point of view is deployment and using of MediaServer more easy than StreamManager.

Thanks again - I am now trying to read up on the licensing requirements for Media Server.  We have it in our lab, but again, I wasn't the one who installed it.  Is there a specific license for Media Server or does it use the GVP port licenses?  The Genesys website doesn't like to talk about licensing very much, so it seems...  Even the licensing guide doesn't offer much insight.

One of the main goals with MS is to stream music in queue.  Everything else would stay the same as it currently is in SM.

Thanks,
Perry

Thanks - I too am just a technical person.  ;)
I am comparing license files and am looking deeper in to the licensing question.

Thanks for the help.

Technically speaking are the same
Commercially speaking they are not, you need a new set

OK - I have just learned a new rule...  Rule #1 READ THE DEPLOYMENT GUIDE....  ;D

It is perfectly clear to me now about Media Server, License Requirements, etc...
Since we have GVP 8.1 installed, this should be much easier than I first thought.  Now off to play in the production lab to plan to replace Stream Manager.

Thanks again for the input everyone.

You should be able to configure a voip trunk DN with service-type=NETANN for SM and one with =MSML for Media Server.

GVP port usage is only commercially licensed - there is no port count in the license.dat file.  This is probably still a Voice Genie legacy.

If you exceed the licenses you pay for, it would be very difficult to escalate any GVP issues to Genesys without them noticing.

From my point of view, you cannot use NETANN and MSML protocol in paralel on one SIP server.

Imho it's not possible as described in the deployment guide. When you set msml-support=true on sip server, sipsrv will use Media Server via a voip service (expect recording, It's another option). But if you set msml-support=false, sip srv won't use Media Server, but able to use SM via NETANN (for a backward compatibility)

Use one sip server for queueing/announcements/media server and another for agents/recording/SM.
