SCS Queries
« on: September 13, 2018, 07:22:41 PM »
Hello,

I have been reviewing a management layer deployment and cannot find implementation steps as described within the framework deployment guides.
The platform is on v8.1 (HA), SCS being 8.1.3 (confserv 8.1.2) - OS Linux.

When checking the scs set up, it does not have the following so wondered if these steps are actually needed:

  • scs configuration file.  This defines the primary and backup configuration servers and is used by adding -c <name of file>.conf on the startup command.  Is this needed? seems to have worked so far without
  • addp between primary and backup scs.  I can see ADDP section in the annex tab of each scs host so think this is it and functionality is enabled?
  • HA port synchronisation between the primary and backup scs.  It is not completely clear how to do this but think it is achieved by creating a port on each scs, ie 3535.  There seem to be 2 steps, one as described but then another which advises to check the 'HA Sync' box.  Not sure if both need to be done - or indeed if this is needed at all, see extract from guide below.

    Start of procedure
    1. Decide in advance the port on the primary SCS that you want to use as the
port to which the backup SCS connects. If you want to use a new port, do
    the following:
    a. On the Server Info tab of the properties of both the primary and
backup servers, create a new port with the same Port ID.
    b. In the Port Properties dialog box of each server, click OK to save the
    new configuration.
    c. In the Application Properties dialog box of each server, click Apply.
    2. If you want to use a new or existing port other than the default port of the
    primary server, do the following:
    a. In the Application Properties dialog box of the primary server, select
the port to which the backup server will connect, and click Edit.
    b. In the Port Properties dialog box, select the HA sync check box, and
click OK. The Port section of the Application Properties dialog box
now displays this port as a port for an HA synchronization connection.

The other step to ensure a correct scs redundant set up is to modify the run.sh file but this is completed.

thanks.

What do you want to achieve at all?

just want to ensure the correct set up has been deployed.
we have inconsistent behaviour during failovers, sometimes leading to restarts of scs to connect with configuration servers.  Wondered if it has a link to these steps.

thanks.

Based on my experience the point 3) is not necessary at all. The other steps are correct from my point of view.
