We are running a tserver version 6.5 connected to an Avaya PBX and our numoflicense is set to 0 (max). Is there a way to determine the number of actual license in use?

We were told that we should scan for GCTI120004 in tserver logs because it will tell us number of license in use. Supposedly, after a successful RequestRegisterAddress tserver should print in its long number of license in use, but no matter how many times I tried to connect to TServer using softphone, there is no such message. Is there a way to track number of license in use and number of license available?

If you are using License Manager 8.3, you can view total number of licenses as well as the actual number in use (by product) by clicking on the "server status" tab checking the appropriate button.

Mike,

does it come with Genesys?
I don't know about Li's setup, but we always have numoflicense set to 0 to get the maximum number of license for our TServer, so wouldn't license manager just tell us that all licenses are checked out even though TServer still has a lot of them idle?

Thanks,
Vic

Vic,

FLexLM would show all licenses checked out BUT also shows the number in use by product (i.e. 10 out of 20). Pretty handy on occasion.

Does Genesy support it?

It's Genesys' license manager and they do support it. We are currently running version 8.3 but I understand that version 9.5 is already out. We have a Nortel environment. Avaya may or may not require FlexLM but you could certainly find out from Genesys.

According to my knowledge, FlexLM is not a Genesys product. It is ThirdParty company application, completely independent from Genesys. But maybe my info is not up odate and Genesys bought this product as well ;).

I think what Mike meant was that, though it's true that FlexLM is a third party product, it is the system used by Genesys for license management.

Genesys technical support does provide support for this product (as long as you are a supportenabled "designated contact"), and can help you with the specific commands required to find the information you're looking for.

If you want to find the license number in the log, you will have to have something register. Logging onto a soft phone wont do that. When you start TServer up, you will be able to see those messages. If you cant restart, then just add a new exension/route point and then look in the logs.

Thanks for the clarification Dave. That's exactly what I meant.

  • Li,

If you can restart tserver, when tserver registers the extensions, it will add a line in the log 51 out of 100 used.
I also thinking 7.0 as i havent used 6.5 in a while, but should be the same.
Otherwise you can just count all your extension numbers, vdns and other pabx objects. That will tell you how many licenses the tserver will register with the pabx therefore how many licenses it uses in Flex lm, which by the way is a third party product made by globetrotter.

Your first theory is correct maybe it should be added that by every registration of new extension Tserver writes in logfile this info.
But the counting of all objects will work only in environments where you can be sure that there is no third party system connected to Tserver. Because such systems could register without problems what ever it wants if there is enough licenses left.

dont forget that you only register the device once ever with the pabx.
How many clients register to tserver is a different matter though.

so how many licenses do i need if i create a custom app to monitor my exisiting call centre of 100 extns that are configured in CME?

    100!

i could have 5 custom apps registering the same extn number but its only 1 license.

    hope this helps

Yes right, but you can register also for example extensions not defined in GCME. We have had by one customer third party system which has provided some autoattendat functionalit to agents and this system has registered other extension as should and as was defined in GCME and therefore we run out of licences.

Little off thread here but could you send me some information on your autoattendant and what you are using it for? We want to use an autoattendant for our Genesys enabled PBX operators.

    THanks!
