License Manager problem?

Hello all:

I am new at it, and have a lot of things to learn before I can call myself an expert. So, can anyone of you tell me how can a license manager be made redundant? Ifa machine running lmgr is suddenly disconnected from the network (or some eD.I.O.T. unplugging it from the wall socket), the whole Genesys network ceases to function.

Can this be prevented by some kind of license manager backup function?

  • Jake,

Genesys does not have a redundancy built into their license manager, even though manual says it does.

We are facing a somewhat similar problem, because our client is running a single license manager for over 10 TServers. This is the only way they can achieve a fluid agent environment, allowing them to vary number of agents at every call site.

There is a backup license manager sitting on a different server; however, thereis a very little use for it, because, when the primary license manager goes down, all the Genesys products shut down, and we are forced to restart the whole system using the backup license manager. But, if you really think about it, there is really no need for it, because unless the primary machine was hit by lightning or a tsunami, we might as well restart the whole thing using the primary server.

I wonder if there is some kind of solution for this!

  • Gentlemen,
A solution would be to put the licenses being used by each of the Tservers on the server that hosts that TServer. This model can be expanded for all the licensed Genesys products.

To do this you may need a few things:
    1. Genesys has to issue you licensing for each Tserver to matchthe volume id of each hard drive with the licenses split appropiately. i.e. you have 5,000 licenses. (3,000 on TServer#1 and 2,000 on TServer#2) Now you have two license files.
    2. In CME and the winnt shortcut or unix command line (depending on the version) set up each Tserver (or other application) to look in the appropriate place for licenses.
