Config Import Wizard

A lot has been said in this forum about importing data into CME, various methods have been suggested, but now in 7.1 there is a proper way to do it.


If you install Config Manager 7.1.100.06 (and probably other 7.1 versions too), Config Import Wizard is on the menu under "Tools".

If it is grayed out then install the CIW from the media, it will then be available. The requirement for a Licence has been removed.

At first I thought that this was fault with the software, but in the documentation (71fr_refdataimport.pdf v7.1.101.00), the first paragraph in section 3 states "....CIW no longer requires a licence".

Anyway once you have installed CIW, there are some Excel spreadsheets in the CIW\hta directory (AgentsImportTemplate.xls among others) which include macros and a button to "Convert to XML".

I think that this was a new feature in 7.1.1xx and above, as I'm running CME 7.1.000.11 against Config Server 7.1.000.07, and it is not an available option.

But I do have a later version of CME, so I will be checking...
