CGE/CGRP

I have few questions...

I heard 2 Genesys tests, those are,

Certified Genesys Engineer - CGE
Certified Genesys Routing Professional - CGRP

Which one is easy one? do I need to go for training for these?

I have been working with Genesys stuffs for last 7 years. I worked on v5.1 and v6.5.
I have worked on Framework, ICS, CCA, and Routing, softphone development.

Is there any resources out there that I can use without going for training and write the test only?

If anyone has done the test only without going for training in the past please share your experience here.

Any help is appreciated :)

Thanks.

Hi Vivek,
I heard 2 Genesys tests, those are,

Certified Genesys Routing Professional - CGRP
just remember these two are version 6 certifications; now Genesys is offering version 7 ones.
do I need to go for training for these?
I attended the Framework+Routing&Reporting courses after an year and a half I had worked with Genesys and they added just something like 5% on my Genesys skills; as soon as I finished, I got the CGE. If you have some experience in troubleshooting, architecture, events and general topics, you are going to pass it. People instead who go for this training without any experience, well, will hardly pass it IMHO (at least with the 6.5 courses resources Genesys provided some years ago  :D )

good question Vivek, I was about to ask the same but about the 2 V7 exams

·        Genesys Certified Professional Version 7 – System Consultant, Inbound Voice (GCP7-CIV)
·        Genesys Certified Professional Version 7 – Developer, Inbound Voice Routing (GCP7-DIV)

Can anyone tell me what areas of genesys each of the 2 will be focussed upon? I have the chance to take either of these at GForce London and to be honest, want to pass!
No harm in having more information :]

Hi,

I've passed the GCP7-CIV nearly two years ago so I don't remember too much. But I would say that having an experience (at least half a year) with Genesys 7.x in real environment in areas like configuration, system architecture, troubleshooting then you should pass it without need of some training.

There are study guides for each certification exam available on Genesys Lab website (http://www.genesyslab.com/training/certified_professional_program.asp - click on "Relevant Resources" on right) which gives you overview about requirements, covered areas and sample questions ;). I do suggest you to read it.

Cheers,
René

PS. Mark, I'm going to take GCP7-DIV at GForce London too :).

Dare I...?  OK - I dare...

Genesys is OK for Genesys Certification - if that's what you desire.  If you just want to *know more*, there are other training establishments out there.

Also, Genesys do have some on-line training available these days but the recommendation is you complete their training courses before taking any of their tests (of course!)...

PM me for details...?  ::)

Tony,

The only reason that I am doing the certification is because it's free ;]
I wouldn't be so eager to pay so much for it out of my own pocket (at this time!).

:D

Vivek - do you mean that your company is willing to pay for the certification and you don't have to pay for it personally?

It certainly wasn't "free" the last time I looked!  ::)

Tony - My company will not pay for this... but when I check Genesys jobs in Dice.com, I see people are asking CGE/CGRP, therefore I am thinking to take the test. Trainings are very expensive, therefore I am looking for some resource.

Mark - You are lucky man, because your company paid for the test :)

Your best approach is to go to them directly and find out if you can take the test without the training.

Vivek, I'm not sure where you are located, so here's what I could find, specifically about CGP:

http://www.genesyslab.com/training/certified_professional_program.asp

- It seems you can do it on-line but I've not looked at what the entry criteria might be.

Vivek,

I'm pretty sure you can take the test without the training. Genesys uses Prometric network so you can take the test at any Prometric partner. Check these links for more information - http://www.prometric.com/Genesys/default.htm and http://www.genesyslab.com/training/certified_professional_program.asp.

Here, we are required to pay 1000 USD for a test if we do not take the training and 800 if we do.

I wonder, oh, I wonder, if given the current number of users, if it would be a good idea to have Open CGE testing, where the test would be created by users of this forum. Chances are it would be a better measure of what exactly person can do than the prometrics test. Of course, there is a tiny problem with needing CGE to talk to Genesys and issue tickets, but I think that if we get enough people to sign the petition, I think Genesys would listen.

Am I dreaming?

Dude - I'm with you on that one.  The "what if",  is;

Approaching Genesys with the idea that we can gather a certain number of engineers who would require CGE/CGRP Certification.  On a bulk order basis, using their on-line certification programme, we could leverage the volume of entrants and more than likely get a discount.

I just happen to be CGE myself (a few times over...) and I do have generic access to their support and training site.

I think we'd need to quantify things before we could make any moves, though..  Soooo, who's up for it?  Who hasn't got CGE...? Sounds like a Poll Question to me....  ::)

I think I can also get some on-line training resource, as "confirmation training" which may fit the bill and perhaps we can approach Genesys with this idea...?

Tony

PS: This is my third edit of this message!

I have approached a Genesys on-line training resource and I'm waiting for their reply, regarding confirmation tests/training.
I have also approached Genesys Training directly and I'm waiting for their reply, regarding on-line certification as a virtual group.

Hi, Tony,

discount rate for a virtual group is an interesting concept, but, if you really think about it, from Genesys point of view these people would probably take CGE anyway and offering a virtual group discount, not only would they be creating a precedent, but they would also be in a way robbing themselves of the potential training revenue they would be getting from having this people taking their official classes.

Having CGE and CGRP for 5 and 6, I am planning on getting my 7 one, but I am not sure why I am doing it - it is not really worth anything once you have more than a few years worth of a track record. Most of the employers would be as happy to take you without a CGE as with one, since at the end, they would need your expertise and not the paper.

From my humble experience, I found most of CGEs that I have seen usually lacking the hands-on approach and being mainly sales techies. Of course, it can be different for different countries.

I will start a poll of how many people have CGEs and how many people are planning. This will help us identify what exactly we would need.

Best regards,
Vic

Sounds fair.

Your experience would be correct - those who have CGE at any Version continue to be sought after as any version would prove useful.  The point I want to make is that there are others out there who may have been working with Genesys for a while now and are looking for a way to be accredited, with little fuss or revenue.  I'm not talking about newbies here!  ;D

Not quite, it is available 'free' if you goto the GForce conference (which certainly is not cheap on its own basis!). Limited amount of people can take the test though, so I am hoping that I will be one of them!
