Yes, gentleman, we have been raided. Not in physical sense, but I am sure many of you have noticed 121 simultaneous users online in March. So, some very bright soul decided to download our whole forum... How annoying!!! All they had to do was ask I would just give it to them. No, it was not google or yahoo :( It was one of lesser Genesys "consulting" companies, that I will withold the name of, FOR NOW.  >:( I was thinking about banning the whole bunch of users from there as well as any IP associated with them, but then again...why bother? After all, this informaion is for everyone. But next time, if you need all of it, just ask  ;D

Keep on posting! (Hey, we have hit over 100,000 hits in March!!! Awesome!)

Well, this is the whole idea... I am still unsure why someone would want to download everything on this forum if it is available online here anyway??? It would be funny if then we find out that one of those "members-only" sites actually added our content to our site (like Ralf Rottmann did few years back, but then smartened up and removed it after some of the posters noticed it)  :P

</thinking out loud> If I were thinking of starting up my own support consultancy, I think it would be good to have all of the answers posted here, to hand...  I mean this site is searchable but producing an internal application with this level of detail as the backend would probably prove very useful... </thinking out loud>

Is there something that can be done to stop people doing it...?

Hi, Tony,

my initial reaction was to ban the person and write a very threatening email. But then, I started thinking and I thought about the ramifications of doing this. What am I trying to accomplish here? If we are to share ideas and thoughts I will need to accept that there will be some idiots who will try to take advantage of this and try to monetize it. The fact of the matter is, if they actually will monetize it, we will probably find out about this anyway and we will be take care of it then. Also, considering that the beauty of this website is in its masses and up-to-date information, having info from six months or two years ago lying in a static pile is probably not going to do any good anyway. And did I mention that this will make them dependent on our forum in a future anyway?

I am more upset about how they blasted my site with 100 simultaneous connections for half a day. Even Ralf Rottmann would not have done that...  ;D

Overall, the fact that we have people trying to leech from us only shows how far we have grown. And did I mention that we went over 100,000 hits in March?!!!! Yippy!!!!

Best regards,
Vic

you sure got that right. I am surprised people would do it now-a-days especially on an open forum. Oh well... Whatever makes them happy. I am very tempted to ban all of their IP addresses just for the fun of it AFTER posting something a very critical piece on them and making sure that they could see it.

Of course, this would be just too childish, plus there is no reason to really do it. The idea for this forum is to share information, and going after one idiot, or in this case a group of idiots, because of the havoc they caused to my bandwidth for several hours, is probably not in the spirit of this forum.  Oh well... Sometimes we should just be nice to people.

Now, anyone interested in Genesys? :)
