The Agile Approach...? (Methodologies)

Hi Everyone!

I've recently been introduced to the Agile Approach to SI, Operations and Support.  Aside from the fundamentals of applying just enough effort for a pre-defined result (i.e. only putting in as much effort as the result requires), are there any pitfalls that anyone may have come across?

I've been using the 6Sigma methodology for quite a few years and it seems as though Agile fits on top of this, when running through DMAIC (Agile overlays each process, by rationalizing any processing required, ensuring the effort is equitable to the result).  Another similarity is the scoring mechanisms, where you might obtain a 6Sigma value for an issue (DPMO) and Agile being able to determine the severity or overall affect (effort) of a proposed change.

It's all probably "pie in the sky" stuff for some of us but, when considering a deliverable of any sort, does anyone have any views on Agile, 6Sigma or any other methodology/approach for delivering solutions, components or full products/projects, specifically for the Genesys and integration products?

As far as programs, projects or even Business As Usual (BAU), what do you think the best approach is? Is it better to measure everything in relation to your current workload, or on individual merit/severity or use a standard methodology or mix and match them...?

Your thoughts would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Tony
