300K BHCC and Genesys SIP

Hi,

I am sure that it is a very normal question, but has anyone EVER handled 300,000 BHCC (busy hour completed calls) design out there using Genesys SIP? We are talking about 5000 or more active calls at any one time.  While 5000 calls is not that bad and I have seen it done before, BHCC implies average call length of under a minute. And that is what bothering me: has anyone done any testing on number of call setups and tear-downs that a single SIP Server can handle? We know that SIP Server can handle maximum of 1000 simultaneous calls according to Genesys guide (down from 2000 in previous versions), but it has nothing on call setup and tear downs.  :-[

Help :)

Vic,

GVP8 is controlled by a SIP Server and I think it's been tested at multiple thousand simultaneous calls. Hope it helps.

I can't help, but usually Genesys load tests are c*@p. I remember that GVP 7.2 technical specs claimed each IPCS would handle 300 calls simultaneously and we found that with just 80 the box CPU usage was up to 100%.

Curious - I've just started a thread on the quality of Genesys testing of their own products, prior to GA release...  ::)

Hum...but Genesys tests on a specific hardware, are yours the same? CPU type, RAM, bus speed will influence in a SIP environment (one of the reasons I don't like SIP CC). Look at Asterisk for example, a powerful PC will only handle aprox 100 calls. Will depend also a lot in the codec used, G723 will use more CPU than G711. Will you play SM treatments? Then more CPU...and so on and so on.
What I think Genesys is missing is specify very detailed on what hardware they are using.

Hey Fra,
I have a client running 300 ports of GVP 7.2 per machine and the CPU sits at about 10-20% fully loaded. There are some tweaks on the OS you need to do which Genesys PS supplied, and I don't believe we did all of them.

As cavagnaro said it is dependant on the class of machine you are using but also on the application.
