Recently, I am starting to hear quite a lot about NEC switches, such as APEX and NEAX. It seems like APEX switches are probably the least expensive compared to the rest of the lineup (Nortel and Lucent), with a wide service assortment.

As you probably already know, APEX switches are widely used in Japan. My concern lies with APEX compatibility with Genesys. What major design restrictions should I be aware of?

I am looking forward to your reply,
Yamamoto Taro

  • I have seen a handout by Genesys about what an APEX TServer can and cannot do. We are using APEX quite a lot with Genesys, and to tell you the truth, it is not as bad as it might sound. Actually, I am a bit excited about the Personal Pilot Number compatibility as well as some other features.

I will try to dig around and see if I can find that handout. It is, of course, in English. I think this is one very weak point Genesys does a rather poor job trying to localize a product. I know they are putting a lot of effort into it, but the results I have seen so far are rather dismal.
