Config Server Upgrade...

Hi,

Currently doing a design for a migration/upgrade from 7.1 to 7.6 on Solaris and I am wondering if you have to run through 7.1>7.2, 7.2>7.5, then 7.5>7.6 of the Config Server (and underlying Schema), to ensure that everything works.  Or would it be possible to upgrade from 7.1>7.6 directly?

I was thinking that I could upgrade the Schema through 71.>7.2>7.5>7.6 and then just upgrade the ConfigServer from 7.1>7.6... Would that work..?

Thanks!

AFAIK you can't upgrade directly from 7.1 to 7.6 (e.g.). You have to do this through all versions between them. But, of course the main thing that you need to do is to upgrade db schema. That is you will need run CCW a few times to make several config db snapshots from version 7.1 to 7.6, but after that you can directly upgrade config server binary to latest version and that's all.
Any way, don't forget backup ;)

Thanks,

My plan is to go through all of the required upgrades (7.1>7.2>7.5>7.6) for the Cfg DBSchema - after that I am planning to update ConfgServer directly from 7.1>7.6.  I just wondered if you have to upgrade the ConfigServer each time you upgrade the Cfg DBSchema - I guess not! :)

You shouldn't need to upgrade the conf serv every time, however, I recommend you to read the Migration Guide.

You don't need to update through 7.2/7.5 - I've done 7.1 to 7.6 direct migration and everything works fine except one thing. OCServer - if you have this in your env, you will have to update this also, cause 7.6 schema contains different configuration of outbound components (groups/campaigns).

Thanks everyone - I have raised an SR to ask about a direct upgrade of Config from 7.1 to 7.6 - and another to confirm/deny the compatibility of OCS 7.1 versus Config Layer 7.6.

Thanks again! :)

I'm pretty sure the response from GTS will begin with: "According to the Migration Guie...."  ;D

Advice is to use the Configuration Import Wizard from 7.6 to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.6 directly, with no interim steps....
